I'm using AKG K141
prolly the best link in my home studio
I def like the "dry" way of those

but nah. not good for tchikaboum music :)

great for classical music thought

so what headphones are you using?
and for what kind of sound?

Post

crappy cheap koss ur-19s...actually they dont sound that bad for the price.

I'm using Sony MDR-V600's. Iike the fit better than the Sony 7506's that most studio's have. The driver is 50mm and the response is very flat. Very happy with them.

not trying to steal this thread :P.. but I was wondering is it normal for music stores NOT to have sample pairs of headphones to trial before buying?

I figure it might be unsanitary to some extent.. but no more than going in a studio right?

I was going to try some of these headphones out at the guitarcenter but didnt see any pairs sitting out anywhere.. saw them on the shelf boxed behind the cash register and there was an entire room chuck full of studio monitors.. but no headphones :o

I actually think they do that due to theft and damage. Cuz headphones are kinda delicate and easily stolen (dont ask me how I know that). But usually if its not too busy you can just ask them to see a pair from behind the counter and you can put them on. But I dont know if they'll let you plug it into anything.

There's a big demo display stand full of headphones including Beyer Dynamic 770 at Seattle GC.

not stealing anything, indeed that's a shame to have to be ready to pay the price to get the chance to listen headphones.

uhhh.. which 'world' of GC are then in at the seattle store? I checked keyboards, synths, proaudio, and the general floor (in the software area).. not a single set sitting out..

the idea of someone stealing them would be odd.. because there is a guy standing at the door waiting to look at your receipt and peek in the shopping bag before you can exit.. hehehe..

oh well.. sorry for the intrusion!

and btw I'm currently using a sad pair of sony mdr-v250 headphones as my main playback and recording device.. they've been fairly well rugged and would be a nice pair just to hook to a walkman for basic usage but are not really clear..

also.. the black material around the padding is breaking off, the headpiece adjuster on the left side is cracking, and the volume & mono/stereo switch is pooping out so I get more volume out of the right earpiece at different volumes (as adjusted on the headphones themself)

...thus why I was wanting to try out new headphones :hihi:

im using the AKG K271 Studio.
nice range, clarity, depth, bass, comfort, and reasonable
isolation from outside noises too. im really happy with them.

Sennheiser; HD580 for serious listening and crystal clear defenition of what is going on!

I also got some spares in case I want to monitor some synth directly; HD414, HD410

And I got a HD25SP for outdoor recordings in the woods and fields cause it is weather proof.

Some rubbish by Technics, I've got two pairs one for making music and one for DJ'ing. They're basically okay but make my mastering a pain in the arse so I use monitors for that.

I use Fostex T20. Nice and has lasted me a couple of years now...FWIW
