Might there be interest in scale models of hardware?

I must admit that seeing that thread a while back gave me the initial idea, but I won't be making key chains, rather they'll be scale miniatures offered in higher-detailed plastic (I doubt most of my models will be appropriate for metal prints as many of the parts will be too small to be printed in metal, as you can see with the patch cable on that KORG key chain.

I also doubt I'll brand mine. They'll be presented as generic versions of famous synths.

I'll find out pretty quickly if there's any sustainable interest in a project like this. If not, I'll abandon it and go to the next thing. :)

I just need to come up with enough cash to pay for my software subscription. It's a hobby I've had for the last 18 years. I don't care if I make more than that (though it'd be nice. ;) ).

If you're worried about costs then why not use this? It's fully free and rather sophisticated!

I've been using 3ds Max for nearly twenty years. I'm not so much worried about having payments as I need an excuse to my husband to be able to make those payments. I love Max and wouldn't want to give it up. It's just that my 2012 version was getting long-in-the-tooth, and the only option for the recent versions is the subscription (I was too late to upgrade my version before they did away with upgrades and went subscription-only.).

It's been a hobby of mine for so long now, it's about time I actually make some money with it. Lord knows I've spent enough on it and will continue to do so. :scared:

:)

Again, no big deal if people don't clamber all over miniature models of synths. So many more fish out there, but I like synths, and I like 3d printing, so I thought I'd combine the two. :tu:

I should have this one wrapped up by later today or (early) tomorrow.

I've been distracted tonight, or this part would've been done hours ago.

I'm officially up for 24 hours now.

Mid-way through modeling. Just need to do the knobs, wheels, and i/o, and it will be ready-to-print! :)

I don't care about rendering realism right now. I'm just trying to get a printable model, and it will all be one color, anyway.

Nearly finished. i/o is all that's left before I can send it to Shapeways.

Looks great! .:)

Erm ... are those black keys (D#, A# and other A#) supposed to look 'pressed' ?

It would be amazing if these models could somehow be turned into working MIDI controllers for plugins.

Roland have already hired him to make the boutique line smaller.

I pondered that too. But in this day and age that need not be so. ;)

Thanks!

No none of the keys are pressed, but eventually I'd like to create a "working" keybed, where at least the keys can be pressed.

I don't know the first thing about electronics, so someone smarter than me would need to work on a, operational controller at this size.

Keep in mind that in this scale, 1 inch of model = 1 foot full-size object, so this would be less than two inches wide and only about half and inch tall at 1:12-scale.

We recently sold a Bob Moog Doll for around $300 on eBay:

I can get ahold of another one, maybe you could borrow and recreate it?

That should be doable. :)

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
