Richie Hawtin and the state of electronic music

Did anyone watch the videos? Because a lot of the comments are misinformed and doesn't even reflect what Richie is saying in the videos.

haven't seen the video and haven't seen him in clubs for a long time. In Germany he is very famous, and has only sets on big festivals.
I think the club culture in germany is ongoing growing and has nothing to do with mainstream edm, so in the USA nobody noticed them.

He's huge in the U.S., in the underground scene, but not in the mainstream. I've seen him touring in SF and other places several times.

DJs don't buy music for exactly the same reasons that most music consumers do so the format changes have had somewhat different effects. I'm very much a Hawtin fan, I have all of his early albums on vinyl and CD. I bought the vinyl to play at house parties in the 4AM slot.

I don't really go out of the way to buy his music today, but it's not because I don't buy music. It's because you can't play famous music and also play music that people haven't heard. That has always been one of the key differences in the underground scene. Savvy consumers may want to get teased with the familiar, but really they want to hear great music that they haven't heard before. That's why remixes are so popular.

I saw him yesterday in robert johnson club, he plaid for two ours, maybe they picked him up from musikmesse, where he has shown a new pioneer controller. But he sounded like everyone else could have playd in this little club, i think he is more nice to see on big events
