I'm happier with 7.5 than any other version (or even competing sequencer, for that matter) I've used.

I know support will get less and less as time goes on, but I just don't feel any incentive to upgrade from 7.5 - in fact, I think 6.5 was perfectly fine.

I guess I'll keep using 7.5 until either OSX or Bootcamp decides it's not having it anymore.

(or Steinberg have a sale, which I'm told can happen once in a blue moon. :borg: )

I've been a devotee since SX2 in 2004, and Cubase got better with each version through 6. After 6, things went to hell. I would use 6 forever, but obviously that's a losing battle. What's the best alternative for primarily MIDI stuff on Windows these days? Please don't say Ableton.

My favourite version of Cubase ... always the latest version! :band2:
AMD Ryzen 3900X & RX 5700XT, 128GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro 64-bit
Waldorf Blofeld & Pulse 2, Akai MAX49 & MPD226, Steinberg UR44 & CMC controllers
Cubase Pro 14, Nuendo 14, Wavelab Pro 12, Dorico Pro 5, Rapid Composer v5, FL Studio 2024

Never used Cubase extensively before, 8.5 is very good for me.
Mac Studio M4
15.7.3
Cubase 15, Ableton Live 12

Does Cubase allow me to drag and drop samples to Groove Agent from Windows Explorer now in 8.5? I really like the drag and drop capabilities in Studio One, was wondering if this can be done in 8.5?

King James version.

Probably FL Studio.

Personally, there were too many changes for me in 7. I felt like I had to learn a new DAW.

This is exactly how I feel now having jumped from 4.5 to 8.5
I love 8.5 but man it's another new learning curve altogether.

Exactly. 4 to 5 to 6 were fluid and completely painless. Even 3 to 4, while totally different looking, behaved exactly the same.

It's rather comforting hearing this as I figured it was my simply the repercussions of jumping so many updates in between.

I feel like that in Wavelab Elements 9 atm. Culture shock GUI, i'm having a hard time to find stuff now. It's good though. Of course, if you're really used to a certain workflow, and have the more complex full version, i'm sure it'd give you quite a hard time, up to the point where you might not accept getting used to the novelty (even if it was superior to what you're used to).

Oh, i had the same feeling in Reason 7 btw. The last Reason version i used before was 2.5. It totally overwhelmed me in Reason 7, and i found some things i can easily do with VST DAW's, or with VST's very cumbersome, so i sold it again. The program really felt extremely crowded compared to what i was used to...

Are Cubase 7 and 8 actually improvements over 6, though? I never got far enough with 7 to find out.
