Sonar
Cubase
Pro Tools

Reaper

Those DAWs are all pretty much perfect in most people's eyes and you'd have to dig long and hard to find any negative comments about any of them.
Er you forgot reason, which is better than any of those other (stability, etc ;) )
I'm almost afraid to post an S1 thread...

Except when you spend an hour fooling with your DAW and don't anything done because of a bug...nathanj wrote:i know it's kind of a lame thing to say, but if we all used our sound editors as much as word editors i bet we'd do less complaining about forums and such.
If someone is complaining, there's probably a good reason that they're not using their DAW at that time.

Rose-coloured glasses there for sure.chk071 wrote: But seriously, do you really think that the companies feel like a forum poster who rants about every single thing about their software is more relevant to them as artists, or people visiting their stand on a trade show? Also, i keep asking myself wtf is it about this first world attitude these days. Back in the days, people made the most out of shit. Nowadays, it's like a paradise compared, and people complain about minor stuff, which gets in their way. And everyone thinks his minority opinion is so important that he expects the company to implement feature XY noone but him wants, but has to be implemented yesterday. Sad times really.
If you spent any time on usenet back in the day, you'd know that it was even worse back then.
Some of the most epic and vitriolic DAW discussions (often among the authors or famous users!) happened 20+ years ago on usenet.
If someone's DAW isn't working well for them, then of course they are going to try to get it improved rather than use it!It sounds like a cliché when someone posts "Make more music and care less" for the thousandth time, but, it's so true.
"Oh Mr. Mechanic. I have 2 flat tires!"
"Well, if you just drove more then you'd probably get somewhere!"

Totally wrong comparison. It's rather like you buy winter tires in the summer, and then, instead of having just looked outside what the weather is like, a.k.a. demoing the software, complain on Facebook that you have a lot of tire wear, because you drive 30.000 km's/year, and took the wrong tire choice. But, of course, if your attitude is that you're so important to the company, as one of their thousands of customers, that you believe that any of your wish has to be read from your lips, and you always feel neglected, and your voice unheard, then that's the logical way to do it. Or you queue up behind the rest of the customers, who also have their say, and things they wished to be improved, or fixed. They won't all get heard though, that's for sure.Robert Randolph wrote:If someone's DAW isn't working well for them, then of course they are going to try to get it improved rather than use it!It sounds like a cliché when someone posts "Make more music and care less" for the thousandth time, but, it's so true.

Btw, i know very well why people rather post on forums, instead of contacting the devs or the company. Do you?

Those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive, so your question is nonsensical.chk071 wrote: Btw, i know very well why people rather post on forums, instead of contacting the devs or the company. Do you?

Yup, all of the DAWs are perfectly capable of making amazing original profesional grade music, but very few of the users are!
People should spend more time improving their musicality, production and arrangement skills rather than analysing Music tools, all of which will be out of date/replaced in a year or so anyway....
I have gone back to mainly hardware for that reason (x32 desk, prophet 08, virus ti, analog 4, modular) I find I just turn it on and start playing chords, noodling, composing...for some reason when I hit the computer ...VST stuff I start updating, optimising, checking forums....
I like S1 (yes there was a point!) as it has a make track for all inputs option and I just hit that when I have something!

Well, you were talking about bugs. It's ALWAYS better to report a bug to someone who's actually able to fix it, or forward the issue to someone who is. Posting on forums on the other hand has only the purpose to vent, or, worse, to try to take influence on others decisions. Mostly the latter is the case. You know, the internet is a great place when one acts responsibly. If not, then... not.Robert Randolph wrote:Those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive, so your question is nonsensical.chk071 wrote: Btw, i know very well why people rather post on forums, instead of contacting the devs or the company. It's possible to both report a bug AND post on a forum. A lot of people do that.chk071 wrote:Well, you were talking about bugs. It's also the case that a lot of companies don't respond to private bug reports very well, but public pressure does get bugs fixed. Steinberg is an excellent example of this, and a company that gets a lot of complainers.
There's also the situation where people post on forums to get confirmation of a bug, or to simply figure out if it is even a bug.
The idea that there's some magical single reason why people post to forums "instead of" reporting bugs privately is pretty silly.

Yes. One could almost think it's sort of an ideology/attitude thing.Robert Randolph wrote: It's also the case that a lot of companies don't respond to private bug reports very well, but public pressure does get bugs fixed. Just as hilarious as thinking this thread, or the posts within it, will make people stop complaining.

People complain about Product = bad
People complain about People (who complain about Product) = good ?

Cubase a "quasi industry standard"? On what planet? Maybe you got Cubase mixed up with Pro Tools; the real industry standard.chk071 wrote:Yes. Steinberg is an excellent example of this, and a company that gets a lot of complainers. You know, the most popular host, and quasi industry standard, which of course gets the haters on the case. Thinking you have to put "public pressure" is kind of dumb though. Steinberg always is under pressure. The pressure to put out quality products, as it's their aspiration. I can assure you that, when Steinberg does bug fixes, or implements much requested features, then it's not because some troll feels like he needs to cry his heart out for the rest of his life here, instead of moving on, if he's so pissed off, but rather due to feedback they get from users. And of course musicians and artists will be in DIRECT contact with them, not through an internet forum. Who should read all this anyway, and selectively check for bug reports and feature requests? Pretty hilarious.
As for Stienberg's reputation on poor support, it's spot on and has absolutely nothing to do with "haters". I have been a Cubase user since it was called Pro 24 and ran on my Atari and in those 25+ years, any occasion that I had to contact their support, it has been a complete waste of time.
