I'm almost afraid to post an S1 thread...

Just out of interest: Which major DAW company in your experience has a good support? Or do they all suck?JJ_Jettflow wrote: As for Stienberg's reputation on poor support, it's spot on and has absolutely nothing to do with "haters". I have been a Cubase user since it was called Pro 24 and ran on my Atari and in those 25+ years, any occasion that I had to contact their support, it has been a complete waste of time.

Reaper...hands down. Because it is community based and there are many experienced users (like Evil Dragon) who can quickly help with useful info. As well, the developers are always around in the forum and jump in when needed. This in turn transforms the forum into a giant FAQ where you can search for answers.chk071 wrote:Just out of interest: Which major DAW company in your experience has a good support? And yes, I consider Reaper a major DAW.

Ok, fair enough. Just can say that i didn't have a problem with Steinberg support. Whenever i contacted them, admittedly not really technical question, they were quick and helpful. When you didn't make that experience, and feel like Reaper is rather your thing, good decision.

I think it all depends on the individual's experience with the company that will determine how they feel about the software and company on a whole.chk071 wrote:Ok, fair enough. For instance, you have had a positive experience and are a happy customer. My experience was not so positive but I still feel Cubase is a very powerful program and we'll worth the money. My choice not to continue with Cubase had nothing to do with support or the program at all. It just simply was over taxing my PC and I had to find a program that worked with my system. In the end I went with Pro Tools 12 as it worked perfectly with my system.

The crashfest thing is sort of surprising. V1-2 were remarkably stable for me. I think I blew s1 up maybe 3 times in as many years? I haven't played with v3 yet, but i'm sure they'll get it sorted. It might help to put up a list of your suspected crash instigators, and see if you can get confirmation elsewhere?qtheerearranger wrote:i am in the exact same boat someone else mentioned in this thread.. i absolutely love studio one... love its features.. I truly think that it can be fantastic. The CPU optimization isnt a big deal to me and I dont understand why its a big deal to anyone (besides people who use a lot of multi outs that maybe max a single core quick) when we have track transform. However, s1 has become a crash fest for me. Like others have said it just isnt as supported as other daws. Most of my software claim they support Logic and Ableton but claim no support for Studio One. I just got tired of finding culprit plugins in s1 that wouldn't be culprit in other daws... it truly is amazing though just not the time for me and her to have our dance.
In terms of cpu efficiency, well, if you have the cpu horsepower, it's a lot easier not to care. I regularly buried my old i5, and while freeze made fair sized mixes at least workable, it was still a pain in the butt come time for final tweaks. Needless to say, I prefer not to have to freeze at all, or at very least to stave that off for as long as possible. In that light, if host "a" lets you do significantly more than host "b" before you start having to freeze...it's understandable to gripe about host "a", I think. if it's down to just a plugin or two, I probably wouldn't waste the breath on it.
Others have mentioned their forum and how it's changed...I do remember it being quite a tight, fun, and helpful community. Presonus marketing (and sometimes dev) folks were usually on hand as needed, and they were very nice folks. A lot of information, and a good dose of silliness as well (is Delete Me still going???). It extended beyond the forum as well...One of the users would hold fairly regular livestream tutorial-type deals, and the Presonus folks would often show up to those as well, which was really awesome...it was a lot of fun and you always learned something.
I'd hope things haven't gone too far from that, but even here, guys like Lawrence are exceedingly generous with tons of good info, and more and more user-based resource/training sites seem to be popping up...
Feed the children! Preferably to starving wild animals.

After version 3 came out I started having more and more problems with S1: midi controller connectivity issues, external soundcard issues, and that hanging S1 process that won't terminate even with elevated privileges and ownership of files.
I was almost constantly having to pull out the usb cables for controller and soundcard to re-establish connection with S1; after too much grief for one man to take, I have slowly started to go back to Reaper and will resurrect FL Studio which I used for many years. Will also fire up Tracktion 7.1 which I got for cheap upgrade from T3 and also start using Ableton beta again.
At this point I'll use anything that won't give me grief like S1's been doing regularly.

No, no, no. Studio One doesn’t come even close. If you really want to be hated in a DAW forum you must use Saw Studio. Speaking as a person who spent roughly eight years traducing Steinberg GmbH at every possible opportunity in these very self-same KvR threads, I don’t care. However angry you are, I just don’t care. And let’s face it, Steinberg are the pits. No, only joking. The best was Stag. Stag was a Cubase fanboy who put me on his ignore list, and then took to shouting at people who quoted me in their own threads. I was never so often quoted in all my time here.
My particular truffe de jour was a photograph of a strikingly obese and unattractive Ozark sex-worker, clutching at her unbuttoned jeans, with the caption ‘now come on boyz ain’t you just dyin fer my latest release?’ Ah, Cubase. I do so admire Cubase, in other people’s studios. What Cubase is actually like anymore, I wouldn’t know, I haven’t touched it since SX 2. But the problem with Cubase, back then, wasn’t Cubase, it was Steinberg GmbH and their commercial choices. That’s where the Cubase hate flows from, it’s not the application, it’s what they make you give. And say what you like PreSonus of Baton Rouge are no Steinberg. They support their customers, they fix their bugs without charging for it and the product does what it says on the tin.
That’s as good as it gets guys. Everything else is personal taste.

'The most ridiculous thing about the presonus forum is that you can be banned for criticizing the Presonus Studio One software manual and lack of clarity in the release notes they provide in updates. That's how bad a couple of the moderators are on that forum. Not only that, there's one that is just plain out immature and rude in their postings and another that runs to defend people against other people when there isn't a situation nor a problem to defend against in the first place. It's like they make a situation up in their own head, out of touch with reality. There are moderators with their head screwed on right, and there are moderators that really shouldn't be in that position, it only takes a couple of bad apples to spoil the overall view of the other ones and that of the community as a whole.
I can see Presonus killing that forum...and putting it in an archived vault like they did with the last one..and users given the option to simply use the FB page to connect their account to, for user help instead if not using the Q&A system they have.
