No idea about the full version, but i do believe that Cubase Elements 8 has some improvements over former versions, like the plugin manager, easier GUI, chord pads, the new instrument tracks (why Cubase had different tracks for single, and multi out is beyond me though) and Groove Agent SE4 (ok, the full version already had that). I find the new colouring to be easier on the eye too. Overall definitely an improvement over former versions, i'm not at all a power user though, my main DAW is Studio One 2 Producer, but i usually fire up Cubase Elements just to play VST's when i can't be arsed to plug in my midi keyboard, and just play via the built in virtual midi keyboard.

4.5.2 on Windows XP
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Cubase Artist 7.5 to 8 before going back to Logic. Initial experience was surprise that despite asking it not
to install on my boot drive that it peppered Steinberg folders and application data throughout C: regardless, the factory VSTs not installing properly the first time (had to download a patch) the sidebar containing channel strip, eq fader not responding to mouse clicks (solved when I upgraded to 8.) This was coupled with the experience of using Windows as the os, where asio4all was plain annoying (I couldnt play audio elsewhere while cubase was open) and the vst folder structure seemed confused and archaic.

Will I sell it? Absolutely not. I must be crazy but I am fond of the experience I had actually making music with it, and hope that things will improve in future. I also invested in the Absolute VST collection which contains Halion Sonic 2 - which I hope to never part with (works in Logic)

One question I have about earlier versions, did the play head/line move smoothly across the screen? It didnt matter too much but i found its flickery, jittery behaviour similar to the way a serial mouse behaved on an older OS made the drum tracks view in particular very distracting to use when zoomed in...

Anything prior to 8. For whatever reason, Cubase 8 is unusable on my PC. Maybe 5 or 6 tracks and then it red lining and that's it. And that is with a very high latency as well..2048 samples.

Cubase Elements 6. Moving to FL Studio was a major downgrade in comparison. It isn't bad or anything..just wish i would have stuck with Cubase. This thread makes me depressed.

The latest one. Works very well for me and I love the chord tracks, versioning etc. that has come along recently

I keep hearing alot of praise for Cubase 6. I really wish I could have tried 6. I was using FL Studio around that time. I don't really care for the Mixer and a few other issues in 7 and 8. Anyone know of a site where I can download a Cubase 6 trial? Does Steinberg make you use the current version?

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but, of course, they sell, and market the latest version now, if that answers your question. Wouldn't make much sense to go on selling version 7, and offering trials for that, if version 8 is out already, right?

I think you can use 6 when you own a later version.

If you don't know it, though, it's probably better to just use the current version since that's how it's going to be moving forward. The love for 6 is from those of us who'd been using Cubase for a long time, had gotten used to the older versions, and were resistant to change.

FWIW, Studio One's mixer is a lot like Cubase 6's was.

Right, i always forget about that. :dog: Agree with the rest of your post though, i've been updating Cubase Elements every version from version 6 on up to 8 now, and every version was an improvement over the former.

Register for the 8.5 demo to have the license placed on your eLicenser then download 6
You'll then have a 30-day 6 demo.

This was how I was able to demo 7.5 just last week.
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Yes thanks for reminding me how well Tangerine Dream used this in the Melrose Years era specifically in the creation of the album "Optical Race. Probably my favorite work ever done by this Magnificent Electronic Group. :tu:
