Does anyone know what (if any) the implications might be of this with any music applications that use Quicktime (e.g. IK multimedia programs)?

None. Apple is not deleting Quicktime from your PC.

Yeh, I kinda get that.
What about the vulnerabilities mentioned, doesn't that expose any programs using QT to same.

Do you use these music programs to download potentially suspect QT files online?
The only way these vulnerabilities could manifest themselves is if you load suspect online QT files. So if you use your music PC for browsing - don't visit sites that use QT, or disconnect it from your browser.

I thought QuickTime had died a long time ago on Windows, more or less with WinXP

What kind of IK gear use QT, googled, could only find a mention to Amplitube?

Steinberg's Response : http://www.steinberg.net/en/newsandeven ... -3683.html

I wonder what other DAW developers are planning to do ? i.e. Presonus, Ableton, ...etc. ?

It's always irked me that I had to have QuickTime for certain software.
I look forward to developers dropping it from their Windows products :)

Apple is more or less desperate: uninstall our crap software today

Seems like somebody hacked it, and like Pontius Pilate they're washing their hands by urging users to get rid of it, so they can't be sued for any future problem.

You can sue software manufacturers for not making perfect software? Why aren't we all rich by now?

I'm pretty well off 8)

But back on topic, it seems weird that this announcement comes head over heels like QuickTime contains the plague or something.

Usually it would be an announcement about end of life for software that will happen a couple of weeks or month into the future.

They must've decided that the cost of fixing those vulnerabilities is too high. Announcing end of support in the future means that they still have to fix those things in the meantime.

I think you are right

Either that or Tim Cook woke up yesterday and thought, f*ck it, today I'm gonna kill QuickTime on Windows

Do CEOs dream of cost reduction and purchasing a new airplane? Androids and electric sheep are so 20th century. :hihi:

Not sure, but I think QT is for loading/saving media encoded in proprietary Apple formats (like those ipod/iphone formats).
If you don't need Apple formats you probably won't be affected after uninstalling.
