These days, QuickTime is as relevant for my audio usage as RealAudio is :P

Post

I abandoned QT the day it came out for Windows.

IMO, Apple should abandon everything on Windows. We don't need their snob crap. :P

Do CEOs dream of cost reduction and purchasing a new airplane? Androids and electric sheep are so 20th century. :hihi:
I thought it was helicopters?

"So Mr Renholm, how did the cosmos grant you a helicopter?"

"Well, I visualised the thing I wanted; in my case , a helicopter. I drew a picture of the helicopter on a piece of paper. Then I stood with my back to space and threw the piece of paper over my shoulder and wished, really hard. Couple of days later, bought myself a helicopter."

On topic, QuickTime is optional in our case and only for importing MP3s into the standalone versions so those still using it for that should be OK unless your MP3s are corrupted in some way to take advantage of the vulnerability which would surprise me. Also, I don't have a Windows install to test a fresh install of the latest versions but I don't recall QuickTime being installed (it is optional so we ask during the install of applicable versions) so I've asked if we removed it and didn't shout it from the rooftops... I'll let you know.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't meant too serious. I don't have anything against Apple. They simply deliver to an audience i don't feel like being a part of.

They deserve what they get. This is the cost of relying on apple's standard :hihi: Lessons learned.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. The one thing about many of these threads is the apple/vs/micro$oft and thought it was leaning towards the now not true side of "apple is just better" :(

But still, my vid was funny :hihi:

Yeah, I'm trying to remember what software on my system 'required' it. Was it Lemur or does that settle for just bonjour? I remember being irritated during a recent install of something that quicktime popped up. I'll find out soon enough because I dumped it right away.

As has been pointed out, the general air of panic is somewhat unprecedented for a mere EOL announcement. There seems to be something that's not being spelled out about these vulnerabilities and I'd rather not find out about the hard way.

I really hope this makes Cycling '74 get their finger out and get a decent working alternate video subsystem for MAX/MSP in this version (ie not MAX8) in all versions for Windows. They were heavily reliant on QuickTime, which of course wasnt 64bit, so MAX x64 basically couldnt do much video stuff at all.

I depend on QuickTime for Windows daily for my job. I wouldn't be surprised if this prompts my management to move me over to a Mac for everything other than my 3ds Max animation work. But really, it sucks that there isn't a decent alternative on Windows.

And lose the massive Max For Live market they built in the past few years. Yeah, that'd make sense.
