Depends on what you want to produce and what your budget is.
Of course the faster and more RAM, the better for everything :D
I prefer macbook pro but you can get more powerful windows laptop for less for sure. It's a matter of taste.
For OSX you can get Logic Pro X for 200 bucks which is maybe the best bang for buck DAW today.
But so many choices.
First you should set a budget!

I use a Dell Latitude with i7 / 3.0GHz, 8MB ram. Bought this from ebay and a company called Racine North, not sure about the spelling though. They work with Dell and refurbish laptops. In US you can buy a laptop or anything else and then return it within a number of days/weeks and get full refund. So those items can't be sold as new. I got this laptop 1,5 year ago and I paid around 650$US ..works like a charm and it is fast enough. 8)

I use an HP Elitebook 8470W. It is one of their business workstation class laptops that is only a few years old.

It currently has a Core i7 quad core at 2.6Ghz, 24GB of ram (still upgradable to a max of 32GB), an Nvidia Quatro GPU, a 3TB main HD, and then a second 2TB in the expansion bay instead of the DVD burner that came with it. The screen is a large 17.5" gorgeous display, and I have a docking station so I can also run it with a 27" external display, an external keyboard & mouse, and a powered USB hub. Hell, it even has a back lit keyboard.

I use it not only for pro audio work but also as my portable photography virtual darkroom. I have no problems with any applications, can run lots of plugins under the various DAW's I use, and work easily with large raw files in Lightroom and Photoshop.

I have been very happy with it, and I probably spent about $500.00 to get started with it. I bought mine off of eBay I believe from an off-lease laptop seller out of Walnut Creek, CA.

I have a desktop in the home studio for recording but, I have a very humble laptop (Dell Latitude E6400 4GB RAM) for remote/on-site recording and I get by just fine.

I use Reaper which works on just about anything.

Never had any worries or problems.
