Hello, is anyone using Wavelab Elements 9? I've just upgraded to Windows 10, and want to get Wavelab Elements 9. I'm a light user of Wavelab, but can't seem to find in detail what Elements are supported. I trust mp3's are supported, and I note that there is limited recording options also in Elements 9? I've seen the comparison chart on Steinberg's website but it is vague. Thanks.

There should be trials available soon, i'd wait for that if you want to know exactly. MP3 is supported definitely though (would have been surprising if not), as are a lot of other formats. It also has built in Lame MP3 support now, if that's of interest for you. I can't judge about the recording options, because i don't know how those look like in the Pro version. Anything specific you are looking for?

Export formats are surprisingly extensive. Wav, Aiff, Wavpack, Ogg, Flac, MP3 (FH and Lame), SD2, AAC, various other more obscure ones too.

Thanks for that, reassuring to know. Well I have the RME 9632 card which let me record back whatever was being played on my PC, back into my audio editor in realtime, via the loopback function on the Totalmix gui, I don't want to presume this can be done in Elements 9, as it says on the Steinberg website limited recording options in Elements 9.

The mp3 export is a welcome surprise. I haven't uninstalled v8 yet though as I'm still coming to terms with the new UI (which I'm not too thrilled about yet). I'm sure I'll get used to it though.

I'm happy with most of what Elements 9 has to offer, but it has to have mp3 export and standard recording from within it.

Wavelab Elements doesn't support multitrack recording, it can record only from a mono or a stereo source. You can decide which inputs to use in the preferences (so, if the loopback is usually seen as an input, then it should appear as an input in Wavelab; I'm on Mac and I don't have a RME, so I can't check).

Mp3 saving is supported with both Lame and Fraunhofer encoder. I don't know if the Fraunhofer encoder works out of the box or if it's still optional (the upgrade patch is still sold on Steinberg Shop, but it doesn't mention the latest products); I have the full version of Cubase which includes it, so I wouldn't need it anyway.

Anyway, Wavelab Elements retains all the features of the previous versions (I jumped from Elements 7 to 9), so you should be relatively safe if you know the x feature is there on the previous versions.

I don't use Wavelab often, so unfortunately I can't comment much.

I have wavelab elements v7. are there any good reasons to upgrade?

Well, if a major overhaul and improvement of the GUI is reason enough for you.

I upgraded because it supports the most recent version of osx. By the way, elements 7 worked fine...

I also suppose there's a better plugin compatibility (there are some issues with some plugins on v7), though I have yet to test this... I use Wavelab only to record and cut and to perform batch conversions.

Another reason for upgrading, if you use it, is the new master rig plugin. And also the "Cubase integration" feature (if you happend to be a Cubase 8.5+ user).

Then there's the new gui.

I don't think there are strong reasons for upgrading Elements from 7 to 9, I thought it was just about time to do so and to stay up to date. I was also wondering if I'd have to pay the full price for the next version if I were to skip also this one...
The user experience on 9 is smother than 7, so I think the upgrade was worth even if I could have kept working just fine with 7. I think it depends on your usage, I use Wavelab in a really basic way, it's my audio editor of choice because I'm used to it and so I work fast, but I get little advantage in my work from the improvements from the various upgrades.

Thanks for that! Yes I've a fresh install on Windows 10, so I'm going straight in with Elements 9, Pro 9 is a little rich price wise but don't need the extra features. A good mastering plug is all I'll need.

Thanks chk071, bluzcat and sincat for your thoughts! I’m not quite sure if these new aspects are enough for me…on the other hand…I suspect the next upgrade step from 7 to 10 won’t be anymore price reduced....
