DUNE2 vs Sylenth1

As owner of both I guess I use Dune 2 a bit more often, but they both have their use. Sylenth1 is the easiest way to dial strong (fat, distorted) patch within seconds. I also use it on simpler sounds (kick, bass, glitched arpeggios). Dune 2 is a pad monster with so many layers. It also gives great acid sound. However it's not that simple / quick to operate all that modulation, which also matters. At the end I choose to keep (and use) both.

If I had to keep one of them right now it would be Sylenth, it better fits my current style of music. Worth to mention that for such a simple architecture it produces wide variety of sounds of great quality.
However should I switch to downtempo and cynematic stuff (which is not impossible at all) then I would be much happier with Dune - it is one of the best in this area.
So I'm happy to have both

What turns me off about Dune 2 isn't Dune 2, it's the thinking behind it - Synapse. Technically It is NOT Dune 2; it's something else. Blue 2 and Omnisphere 2 where actually 2s, as was Zebra 2, and as will be Zebra 3... You cannot call it 2 if it's not backward compatible. I abhor developers that throw their previous developments aside, rather than DEVELOPING them (I think it shows a certain programming ineptitude). Same can be said for Fxpansion - won't ride that train again.

Maybe it was just too different under the hood to make it compatible with version 1. But then again, they could have given it a completely different name. But then again, in that case v1 customers would not have received a generous upgrade
I assume v1 and v2 have different ID's, so you can use them side by side, right?

At least it is much better than Saurus upgrade where I'm supposed to pay more than I've originally paid for verison 1 for some not very prominent changes in the sound engine and the GUI design.

Not sure why that is a big problem anyway, as you can have both version 1 and version 2 installed. V2 sounds very different, i think the whole sound engine has changed, so i guess it's no wonder that it's not backwards compatible.

Now I sell D2 for 82 euros and still no one wants to buy it. When I sold Diva it went in 30 mins, same goes for Zebra and Spire.chk071 wrote: Dunno really, i can only speculate about the "why".

IMHO the sound of Diva and Spire is superior to that of Dune2. Both the oscillators and filters have better quality in those synths. The advantage of Dune is the user wavetables and more advanced FM.HcDoom wrote:Now I sell D2 for 82 euros and still no one wants to buy it. I had all of them and...no...I dont agree. They all both pros and cons. For example supersaw on D2 sounds 10x better than on Spire, while Spire excels more on other types of edm sounds, imo. Diva recreates something totally different...and still its JP8080 emu doesnt beat D2s supersaw sound, but it beats D2 in analog type of sounds.izonin wrote:IMHO the sound of Diva and Spire is superior to that of Dune2. I don't want to argue, because tastes differ. Dune2 and Spire don't technically have the Supersaw oscillator, which is found in some Roland synths. Only Diva does. They can create "multisaws", reminiscent of the Virus' Hypersaw oscillator.HcDoom wrote:I had all of them and...no...I dont agree. They all both pros and cons. I don't want to argue with you about that, each to his like, but, Spire is the synth which is very popular in genres with frequent usage of supersaw, or trance typical sounds, not Dune 2. It's not that it's a total mystery what the top producers of those genres use, in every producer video you see it, and they like to tweet about it, or post on Facebook. Also, by the amount of soundsets you can see which synth is more popular in that regard. As i said, if it's your opinion that Dune 2 sounds better than Spire in that regard, fair enough. But that doesn't mean that it applies to the majority of people too.HcDoom wrote:For example supersaw on D2 sounds 10x better than on Spire, while Spire excels more on other types of edm sounds, imo.

Actually, D2 does, its just that it is much more versatile and expands on it. (Im talking about the actual osc, not the unison engine)izonin wrote:I don't want to argue, because tastes differ.
