I love this synth but would love more sounds. Anybody know any good spots out there to download sysex patches usable by this synth?
Thanks

Check out this site. There are many banks and info.
http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/
There is also this thread that is 57 pages and has a link somewhere in there for a large number of banks.
I forget where I got the largest portion on the banks that I have (probably about 20-30) but I think it was in the 57 page thread.
Good hunting.

Everything you will find at Rainer's site or on the internet in general that is freely available is contained in the SQ8L Bank hosted HERE at KVR (Same link as in my previous post).
OR, waste your time diggin it all up again if you really enjoy the hunting and gathering buzz.

So where do I get presets.........................1-2-Many wrote:Geesh Louise! How many times do I need repeat this!
I still own an ESQ-1 so this plugin has a place close to my heart. I've been going thru the collection today and found some old favorites. I think I even found the preset I had published in the Transoniq Hacker, one of my first presets. That takes me back more years than I care to admit. I've been banging out a few presets today, will upload them here when I get more. Am I correct in saying that if I hook up Midi In/Out to my Esq I can dump the presets into SQ80L? If so I'll give it a go tommorow.
I know this is an emulation of the ESQ/SQ80 and it seems to capture the raw gritty lofi nature of the old Ensoniq machines. I'd still like to see a "modern" mode with more pristine,hi fi waves without the grit of the legacy mode or even additional waves. Wouldn't be to the purist's liking but would bring the Monsters from Malvern into the 21st Century.

That "hi-fi" mode is built into the plugin. You can turn of most or all of the emulation settings, leaving the sounds quite a bit brighter and up front. I like to mix the modes, depending on each sound.
I am a Mac user but run SQ8L in Vienna Ensemble Pro on XP using VMWare Fusion (Virtual Box might work just as well and its free). Vienna Ensemble Pro runs as a host on the virtual PC and simultaneously as a plugin within DAW on the Mac (Logic in my case) with unparalleled stability. It works beautifully, multiple outputs and all. The virtual audio and MIDI are very responsive, burying anything else I've tried (and I've tried many).

No the "Hi Fi mode" was not what I was talking about............
Anyway I sold my ESQ-1 and VFX. I miss them a little bit but they went to good homes so I'm happy that someone else can enjoy them now. I owned the ESQ since it was new..........

LOL, well... to be fair, I just came across the SQ8L... and in the process of finding the gobs of banks on KVR am now in the process of reconstructing (exactly) a few old songs that only existed on cassette, never having had their fair shake in the studio. Needless to say, I am blown away by the SQ8L. If anything, it could use a bit more grunge. I'm definitely going to have to hurl a little dirt and rocks at it.

I would REALLY like to get my hands on dumps of the Valhala 3201 and 3202 carts (640 sounds altogether). If any .syx or .8xl files are floating around, please message me! Thankfully, pretty much every other patch is on KVR as 1-2-Many humorously drew my attention to.

For anyone who did not understand 1-2-Many's generous reminder, there are hundreds of patches here...

I didn't know about these either, and now I'm going to spend a couple of hours checking them out. And yeah, if you find any others, I'd love to get more.
This is a cool little synth with a great character, and I wish it was still being developed (even as a paid version). I recommend it to everyone I know looking for those classic Ensoniq sounds.
