Turntable question

This is probably a fair question for this forum:
I picked up a Technics SL-1200 last week and I have a few questions.
1. Will it work if I have it running through this:
http://www.amazon.com/Bellari-VP130-Pre ... ono+preamp
and into these:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000AM67V/?tag=next6-20
I have these old Alesis monitors just sitting around and thought that since they are active self amped speakers that this should be cool since the phono pre amp will bring the signal to line level.
2. I am looking for a dust cover for the turn table since the one it came with is badly damaged. The new ones on Amazon are about $150 each! That's just crazy! Any cheaper knock offs out there?

That should work fine.
Oddly, my wife just got me a super nice turntable for my birthday... I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do with it considering I haven't really owned vinyl since the mid 90s. I don't even have a place to put it!

For the cover try Decksaver.

That's funny I'm sort of in the same boat, minus the awesome wife who gives great presents.zerocrossing wrote:That should work fine.

I used to have some vinyl years ago, 90s and early 00s but was without a turntable for a long time.
I also am unsure of where to put the turntable at.
I have a "school" area set up in my house for my son. I just bought him this:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produ ... #/20275885
(the black/brown version)
It can be set on it's side and that's actually how it was displayed in the store as well. It's perfect for storing school supplies but I also discovered that it fits LPs perfectly and I think I'm going to put the turn table and equipment on it and teach my son about vinyl.

I've seen this one, it's a top contender at this point.Mushy Mushy wrote:For the cover try Decksaver.

I would really love to find a real matching Technics dust cover although it is kinda pointless when cheaper options exist that do the exact same thing.
Thank you for the suggestion.

That looks good. I should pick that up for Miss Bunny Bun Bun and her growing collection of books and toys. She's a jaguar. You'd know that if you met her, as she tells everyone... All the time.crazed one wrote:That's funny I'm sort of in the same boat, minus the awesome wife who gives great presents.zerocrossing wrote:That should work fine.

The super nice gift is actually making me super anxious. I don't know what to do. A cheap suitcase record player from a thrift store to play records with my 3 year old would have been awesome. This thing, I'll never use. I'm too lazy to dig out my CDs for listening. Now I feel all this... Pressure. First world problems, I know.

If you ever consider to get rid of it, I, as someone which have a collection of over 1.500 LPs, would be good candidatezerocrossing wrote:That should work fine.

I slept on it and I decided that even though feelings will be hurt, it has to go back. Having that much money tied up in something I can't really use makes me sad. When my daughter goes to college and I can retire, having a record collection sounds like the perfect hobby for this old man, but while there's still some fight in me, I'd rather be making great sounding music than listening to it.fmr wrote:If you ever consider to get rid of it, I, as someone which have a collection of over 1.500 LPs, would be good candidatezerocrossing wrote:That should work fine.

That's why I have been considering the possibility to buy a new one someday.

A quick update... one of the albums my nice wife included with my turntable was Purple Rain. After what's happened it sure was nice to bust open that vinyl and play it. Maybe I was too hard on the poor thing. It is super cute.zerocrossing wrote:I slept on it and I decided that even though feelings will be hurt, it has to go back. That was nice of her. A nice tribute to him as well.
