Hey guys,

new to this. Im running logic 9 on Mavericks and I have a mid 2010 system recently upgraded to 12 GB RAM. Processor is a 3.2 GHZ inter core i3.

I don't have a crazy arrangement going. only 5 audio tracks and two VSTs but when I play my track and I open up an EQ insert (Logics own) and have Analyzer running the whole thing lags. I try to press Stop track and can take anywhere up to a minute for it to stop. I thought it was due to RAM and that's why I upgraded from 4 GB. Thoughts? thanks.

Are you on 9.1.8 update?

So right now if you are too much bothered by that, you have two choices, to keep using Logic 9 and downgrade to golden 10.6.8 or dual boot and probably miss out on some other stuff (that doesn't work on it) or just buy Logic X instead, seems really tempting with Alchemy on board.

I have experienced the same problems with Logic 9 and Mavericks/Yosemite. Tried every update of logic from didn't help. For me was mainly lag everytime i was opening a plugin with a graphic disaplay like Channel EQ or Analizer.

Or you go back to previous OSX version when everything was stable like 10.8.x or move to Logic Pro X like i did

Well, you should answer that question for yourself, saw some folks around here that swear by it like it's best thing since sliced bread (at least that's how devastated they got about it), as Logic stock plugin, it really adds amazing value to the whole package, but again, it depends on what you do, personally, it really does worth it, because I'm mostly using Logic factory/stock stuff anyways and having something like that as addition to EXS, ES2 and etc. is just awesome.

Another thing for me in X is MIDI effects and solutions, if you rely on them, this will make huge difference to you for sure:

That's from top of my head and on which I actually rely, there are other improvements for sure, study that carefully and get around to go somewhere to test it before you make a jump.

Unfortunately, personally, I don't like how Logic X looks at all (even with custom themes and what have you) and even how it behaves (some minor personal preference stuff), but still, it's hard to resist upgrading at this point.

Yes, that's what I meant by dual booting, your Mac came with 10.6 anyways, so you are good to go.
