It still could be something else. Apart from that, i think you have a little too much faith in the medicine. Even when they do all they can, there is a possibility for serious illness, or death. Who says they didn't? Could be lots of things - Tests take time to get results - maybe he was discharged to await the results? Tests can't always predict someone is going to take a turn for the worse anyway.
