http://www.theonion.com/article/nation- ... e-wo-52791After hearing the shocking news of the iconic pop star’s unexpected death, the U.S. populace reported Thursday that it was simply too sad to f**k, even though they knew it was what Prince would have wanted. “If Prince is looking down on us right now, I know he’d want to see us all get down and f**k, but I’m still just so upset that he’s gone that I don’t think I could get in the mood,” said 37-year-old Arizona resident Carol Parnum, echoing the sentiment of tens of millions of Americans across the country, who acknowledged that, despite recognizing that nothing would have brought more joy to the seven-time Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist than everyone getting freaky and f**king all night long, their emotions were still much too raw to do so.
Prince dead at 57 surely not??

One of my favorite albums was Parade. He had the first four songs for that album written in his head before he recorded them. He recorded the drums for all four songs in one take. Then he asked the engineer to rewind the tape and recorded the bass for all four songs in one take. Same for guitar. Pretty cool.
Goodbye Prince. I Wish U Heaven.

No you won't find his best work on You Tube or any place similar...since when did being a hit qualified a song as great? Turn on the radio or go to iTunes there are plenty of "hits" that are far from great and can't stand the test of time. Who gives a f**k about a god damn Grammy.......or even a Gold or Platinum record ? There hundreds of years of music that was made before the word "hit" was even coined.fluffy_little_something wrote:Indeed, I don't know them. I prefer the way Sade does it, little output, but all of it good.
Kudo's to you for admitting youre passing judgement on a body of work you 'dont know'.
This thread could use some of that 'little output, all good' stuff.
Which of those zillions of songs listed do you think are great? Maybe I can find 2 or 3 of them on YT and see what is great about them...

That was the point....not to be restricted by genres...break the mold ...no pre-conceived notions...never do it the same way twice!!!!fluffy_little_something wrote:Karma_tba wrote:Did the salesman get that Eurythmics album out of the same bargain bin as Flock of Seagulls, Wang Chung, and Men without Hats? Legends all........Yes, Brit pop was very different stuff, indeed. But somehow I preferred it back then, and even today actually, I mean the 80's stuff.
With Prince I never knew what to think of him, which genre to assign him to...

Well known ≠ great songs. How many people in the world know Happy Birthday? Great Song? e i e i o.fluffy_little_something wrote:Indeed, I don't know them. But, if they were great songs, wouldn't they have become widely known, regardless of his disputes with record labels?
I think i need a break from this place too.
Edit: As far as genre's, he liked to think of his as Inspirational.

No, there is nothing certain about great songs becoming widely known, just because they are greatfluffy_little_something wrote:But, if they were great songs, wouldn't they have become widely known, regardless of his disputes with record labels?

"CDC does not know exactly how many people die from seasonal flu each year"
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/us ... deaths.htm
maybe you should read the links you cite before you start acting like a smartass ... or jackass as the case may be.
they go on to say that the reason they don't is, amongst other reasons, because death certificates don't specify when the death was flu related (in the USA). so a death certificate may say 'respitory complications' ...but not state that this was caused by the flu. States are also not obliged to report flu deaths in over 18 yr olds. And also, which may relate to prince, "many seasonal flu-related deaths occur one or two weeks after a person’s initial infection, either because the person may develop a secondary bacterial co-infection (such as bacterial pneumonia) or because seasonal influenza can aggravate an existing chronic illness (such as congestive heart failure or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)".
So they don't calculate, because it would be a gross under-representation of the facts as far as they are concerned. which is why they estimate instead, and to that end ..." Instead, a range of estimated deaths is a better way to represent the variability and unpredictability of flu. An August 27, 2010 MMWR report entitled “ Thompson MG et al. Updated Estimates of Mortality Associated with Seasonal Influenza through the 2006-2007 Influenza Season. MMWR 2010; 59(33): 1057-1062.," provides updated estimates of the range of flu-associated deaths that occurred in the United States during the three decades prior to 2007. CDC estimates that from the 1976-1977 season to the 2006-2007 flu season, flu-associated deaths ranged from a low of about 3,000 to a high of about 49,000 people. Death certificate data and weekly influenza virus surveillance information was used to estimate how many flu-related deaths occurred among people whose underlying cause of death was listed as respiratory or circulatory disease on their death certificate." .. that's per year btw.
Harvard estimate approx 36,000 die in the USA alone from flu. infact it's the first result google gives you - prominently placed and highlighted at the top of the page - when you search the term 'how many people die of flu each year' ...so I have no idea how you missed that.
200,000 hospitalised by flu in the USA alone. So, hardly outlandish to imagine prince needed to visit the hospital with the flu - is it ? ...nor is it outlandish to consider he might have died of a secondary, co-infection - as they mention in the link you glibly cited.
why you would even make some pedantic objection to my initial comment is beyond me, when it is very clear I am giving a good representation of the facts. I suppose you are/were so entrenched in whatever little shitfest spat you have/had going with others in the thread you felt compelled to dispute what I was saying, regardless of its factual accuracy.
anyways, i hope your skeptical mind is satiated now and you can wrap your head around the idea that the flu can kill. and that it's not uncommon.

RIP Prince. Truly an extraordinary musician, probably one of the best ever. The great gig in the sky just got so much better.

When I was perhaps 15 years old, I played Prince's "Controversy" on my record player and hit 'record' on my cassette player. When it got to the part of the song I didn't like, I paused the cassette; when that part was over, I un-paused it. In my fuzzy memory, I *nailed* that edit. That was the seed. That was the start. More than 30 years later, I'm still editing things I don't like out of audio. Thank you, Prince. You are why I am what I am today.

I became a fan of "Wendy and Lisa" but never a Prince fan. My girl was big on him in the 80s.
Miles Davis felt he was a genius...being a big Miles fan, i`m still scratching my head about that, but who am I to second guess Miles?
If he was ill, would you think it odd that he was alone?
I didn`t read the story, but I think I heard he was flying to a concert when he detoured to a hospital bed. Wouldn`t he have been flying on a private flight? Detouring off because of illness wouldn`t have been a big deal. I guess if your away from home and on a flight and you get flu complications, you go to a hospital and not a Marriott.
My point being, he may have just had the flu and he somewhat recovered.
Although it is very suspicious his untimely death came just a week later.
