It's not just the big developers. We haven't heard about AU support yet from little guys like Beep Street, Icegear, or Bismarck, either. This leads me to believe it's just early days for AU on iOS. I still think we'll see a lot more AU synths by the end of the year.

What could be sooo different to implement AU from - let's say IAA and Audiobus?
Looking at it from a user viewpoint: it should not be much of a problem so support a 3rd one.

I think the app developers need to build a separate GUI and enable multiple instances in AU/IAA hosts for use as AU extension or IAA, which I probably what is slowing down adoption.

Yes, it will have something to do with having to re-do 90% of their code, re-build their development environment and do a shedload of additional testing to sell and support a few extra copies of their $199 plugin for $2.99. Apple tend to break things with every new OS release, but selling things for $199 makes up for that. Not so much with $2.99.
Get a Windows tablet. Seriously, that's where the software is. Fill it up with your existing VSTs (or some quality freeware ) and rock on!

Rubbish. iOS AUs shall share essentially all of the code base with desktop AUs-- other than the GUI tweaks-- so developers can rather easily create both simultaneously. Sunrizer, for instance, already is an AU on OSX & iOS so might be an easy transition. For others, look at SEM / iSEM.

There are several scenarios here, one of them being somebody working exclusively with the AU API on Mac only where that may or may not be true. For others they are using their own cross-platform frameworks and for others, 3rd party frameworks. 90% is obviously just a number, but a GUI takes up the majority of the code in any plugin (with a GUI). How much work needs to go into each framework to account for the differences between iOS and desktop when it comes to GUI - perhaps resizing/scaling where none exists (that's a biggy) - or filesystems etc is something I can't answer.
I'm happy to allow you to haggle me down to a range of 10% - 50% changed code for the princely sum of 1% of the price charged on desktop, more support and the risk of Apple breaking everything with every point release of iOS. btw, if they do not insist that iOS AU plugins have responsive-esque GUIs that conform to device size now, I can't think of any reason why they would not in the future.
Oh, if you're a plugin developer, please tell me what needs to change in the framework I use (IPlug) in order to support the new format.
Incidentally, what would you expect pricing to look like for an iOS AU in these three scenarios...
1) It has a desktop counterpart you pay for separately
2) It is bundled with a desktop counterpart, but you're never going to use it
3) It is purely an iOS AU
Remembering that in a couple of years time, the increase in power of tablets means that purchasing a laptop/desktop will become even less essential for serious production than it is now on the Apple side. And plugins are a niche market.

Price depends on what the plugin does
But I wouldn't be prepared to pay much of a premium to have it on desktop too

it might take another iOS version upgrade before AU is ready for prime time. In the meantime iSem and Viking are holding it down..kudos to them.

Well, if money is a question: I spent more than €70 for Animoog, no problem to spend another €xx for the AU Extention feature 
I'd also pay that feature for THOR, Sampletank, Synthmaster, DrumJam, Thumbjam and others...

I would also love to see more AU on iOS. I think it will take a few years but then i hope i can get rid of my desktop setup again
IOS has it downside but f.e. installing and uninstalling apps, patches etc. and a lot other things are easy and faster as on some crappy desktop software....if developers implement it well. A lot desktop stuff seems to be stuck in the past and mobile platforms will be a big part of the future i think. It´s still limited especially in terms of data management but a lot of the desktop OS stuff is just bloated and not needed for a consumer or someone who just wants to produce some music.
Of course apps are also very powerful today but a lot cheaper too.
I mean i love a lot of my big plug-ins and they are worth the price but often a simple setup is much better for fast results and makes more fun to use. I hate when i need to uninstall a ton of folders just to get rid of a f..... plug-in while i just have to delete one app on iOS via one click.
So i hope it doesn´t get so unnecessary bloated and complicated with those mobile platforms in the future. I want to focus on production which is often better with limited options.

Totally agree, and I think it will be about a year before this really takes off. My tests have been very promising with Cubasis and the few AU's that exist already.
