Image-Line's New "Monetizing" Scheme for FL Studio

I don't usually wade in on stuff like this because facts are usually left behind, in a wake of lingering bad experience and ignorant opinion. However, the Image Line response does seems mixed. So here's my experience and opinion (bad, ignorant and otherwise).
First, what's the problem with monetizing demos? IMO it's OK as long as it's not intrusive, i.e. doesn't hit your PC. Open Candy was bad and I avoid it. However, the new implementation, which can be stopped at the web site, seems fine. Also, not hassling customers with it is a good choice. So all in all, it's an improved situation for both actual and potential customers. If there is an issue with the demo being cracked, then maybe have different builds for the demo and customer versions. It shouldn't be a problem if they have 2 versions on the site already. It's just conditional compilation of the same codebase, with some minor code changes to "null" or limit certain functions. I've done the same thing myself many times.
Anyway, the last point is the real issue. Leaving paying customers with major bugs whilst you work on something new is not OK, IMO. FL Studio Mobile is usable, a lot of the Mac stuff isn't. That, to me, should dictate priorities.

For years it was clear that IL and foremost FL is Win only, no sign that the dev would deliver for the Mac platform too. Now, if you demo the stuff you can buy for your Mac (and it didn't work properly) why you bought it then?
Imo the decision to try to find a place in the Mac market like IL do isn't wrong in the long run but it seems that it take to much time to settle bugs and as result we are far from what one could acknowledge as a serious attempt, at least for many users.
I remember some IL rep (i think it was Scott) said in the past that no man-power from IL were deducted for the Mac porting stuff now i read that Max is flat out on mobile version and Mac issues so i guess he's not working on anything Win related in the next years, thats sad somehow as i like his work/plugins on Win and hoped for another gem within FL Studio.

Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

1. How long should it take? What was the last Alpha you tried?murnau wrote:1. Here's what testers have said about 0.8e ...
http://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic.p ... 8#p1036458
"Damnnnn...The latest update is really close. I know there are a few more bugs to get rid of, but this thing is on point. Big up's and ratings team."
"SWEETNESS!! Finally feeling solid
"The Alpha is great it's so close! Still a few bugs here and there such as the background turning black when you hide the playlist or sequencer etc. but other than that it's looking good. Will we see a beta by summertime?"
"Great work! A lot of the problems that were happening before with me are now fixed but there is a big problem for me and I can't seem to figure it out. ... I am trying to open an FLP that I previously made and it says "An error occurred while reading the FLP file"
2. Focus shifted to OS X development after the feature set for FL Studio 12.3 was finalised. We did this because we are about to go to Beta and need to complete a bunch of details. On what basis do you come up with 'years' for further Windows dev? It will delay some parts of FL Studio development months, not years. Actually, this is a moot point anyway, the codebase is unified and windows/OS X development of program features is the same thing. We have also hardly been slacking on FL Studio development. Here's what we have done since 12.0 (excluding bugfixes). I know some of our competitors would have called a fraction of this list a whole new version and charged customers for it:

Some ratings and info of DAWs from 2015. We are just 4 months into 2016 so...
http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/tech/ ... day-238905 FLS = no 1
http://www.producerspot.com/top-best-da ... c-software FLS = no 2
https://ask.audio/articles/the-top-11-m ... -voted-for FLS = no 4
I can't really see anything backing up the comment that FLS should be at the bottom
But it is clear I think that a number of people are pissed at IL and I am sure a number of those individuals love to trash FLS in every thread possible. I am also sure there is a reason to why a number of people are pissed and especially Mac owners. And I do agree that IL should address that. I also had (one in particular) bad experiences but my solution is just to avoid buying anything from them again, instead of ranting in KVR about it as soon as I got a chance. Perhaps other customers of that company are happy and had a much better experience than I had

FL Studio is very good. It can be used to make any music genre, stop saying it's for EDM only.

Not true. Fl Studio would be the last choice for any genre that makes regular use of time signatures not in straight 4/4.nickamandote wrote:FL Studio is very good. And it can be used to make any music genre, stop saying it's for EDM only.

Really? So all the jazz tunes I am making can't really be made with FLStudio?? So that must make me a f**king genius since I managed to do itrobotmonkey wrote:Not true. Well, I did not say you could not do it. But it absolutely sucks compared to most other DAWs for anything else besides 4/4. Sucks to the point I would switch to any other DAW instead for this.ATN69 wrote: Really? So all the jazz tunes I am making can't really be made with FLStudio?? I get your point but I don't really agree. If you know your DAW and know your stuff you can do any kind of music. If you put Ableton in front of me and ask me to do Jazz music then I will fail. Because I don't know Ableton. But from what I heard it's a great DAW and I just have to blame myself.robotmonkey wrote:Well, I did not say you could not do it. Just to be clear, we still have yet to see a 64 bit only windows release, 10 has both x86 and x64. No change in your point above, but yeah... still no x64 only windows release.Image-Line wrote:once 64 bit windows only comes out

Takes 2 seconds to change the time signature under the project settings, what are you talking about? Multiple time signatures in one project sure, it's not ideal for that, but simply making something that isn't in 4/4? What?robotmonkey wrote:Well, I did not say you could not do it. I doubt we will ever see a 64 Bit only Windows release. Legacy support is a big part of what Windows is all about.xNiMiNx wrote:Just to be clear, we still have yet to see a 64 bit only windows release, 10 has both x86 and x64. Yes it's a target. ASAP. That means we are working on it, no ETA.Robert Randolph wrote:Is 64-bit OS X a target now, or soon?Image-Line wrote:I doubt we will ever see a 64 Bit only Windows release.
