My friend has ST 2 and I went over to check it out. I was really surprised that I keep getting polyphony drop-outs. I was playing one of the grand piano sounds, and all I did was hold down a major 7th chord and I immediately can hear only 3 notes or sometimes only 1. Holding down big chords was even worse.
His DAW is quite beefy (I built his, so I know it's quality stuff)-- WinXP Pro, Intel 2.8 GHz, 2 GB DDR RAM, and 360 GB total of Harddrive space (IDE and SATA drives--all at least 7200 RPM). None of his harddrives were filled up, and we only had Sonar 3 PE and ST 2 running. We didn't have any other problems playing with other VST's.
I hope this problem is unique to him, because if it isn't, I will not consider getting any IK Media products, including SR products which run on IK Media's engines. I really hope that's not the case because I'm about ready to buy Sonic Synth group buy and upgrade to Sonik Synth 2 and ST2.
Polyphony drop-outs??

You can increase (or decrease) the polyphony for either individual channels/instruments or for the overall ST2 instance right on the interface. Given your friends DAW specs, you would have no polyphony problems for multiple instruments and/or multiple instances.

There are no polyphony drop out problems when the product is authorized. But, if it is running in a sort of "demo mode" before it is properly authorized it will have a polyphony limit of I think 4-6 voices. I don't know who decided to do that. I was installing Sonik Synth 2 beta on a machine yesterday and it was doing that.
But, as soon as it was authorized and I reopened cubase SX and called up an instance again it was full polyphony.
So, don't worry. You can set the polyphony limit both "per sound" and "per the module" and it is fine as long as the plug-in HAS been authorized properly. My guess is that your friend's has not been (or maybe thinks it was but it isn't). An email to IK tech support if necessary to get help authorizing but the key is to enter the serial and digital ID accurately as possible. It is one of the only hassles, software copy protection but you get it done and then you don't have to worry about it (or losing dongles, which I have done with other software).

Gotcha. Thanks! I'll pass it on to him. When he's got it fixed, I'll head on over to play again.
