Following suggestions from a few corners, I've updated the song to have a guitar solo after the organ break... I've also done some other processing around... I think I've got a smoother sound.

I used:
mda Piano & epiano
4Front GSyn Bass
NuBi
Loopazoid
5*sfz (Steel Guitar, Clean Guitar, PapelMedia Violin, Grand Viola and Fitch Cello)
My warbly voice

Effects including Ambience; Classic: Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Phaser, Compressor; mda combo; Bodilizer Beta...

Mastered using SlimSlowSlider LinearPhaseEQ, T-Sledge and TLS-Maximizer.

So there we are! Same link as before.

Your tunes always come with a complimentary smile :D

Musicwise you are on to a winner, although I'd somehow try to temper the vocals a tad or eq the lower mids a bit. Good lyrics btw. Could you type them out here?

thx Mystahr! I appreciate the advice about the vox - I'll look into that..

Lyrics?
I didn't start at the finish line
I had to work through the dirt to get where I am
And if the punishment fits the crime?
Guess I paid my dues, 'cause I've carried the can
For all of the things that I've said to you,
All the promises of what I'd do
Were just empty words at the best of times,
Keeping you away from what is mine.

I never said that I didn't mind,
Keeping all those things inside my head.
Did I look like I was doing fine,
With all the angry words that were never said?
And then you looked at me as if everything was alright,
You wouldn't recognise the black from the white.
You know the one thing that I see but I just don't get
Is how you seem to carry on with no regrets!

But then who's to say that I'm the best judge,
When at best you could say that I'm holding a grudge?
At the end of the day all I've wanted is peace,
And I'm looking for the way to be released.

And now, as I walk away,
There's something inside me that's quiet and still.
Tho' I know I can never stay,
Putting it down is a matter of will.
If I can find it in my heart to let go and forgive,
There's a life of peace for me to live -
How you reach the finishline's not for me to say,
'Cause I'm going to choose a different way.
It all came about from a colleage at work.. He was asked how he had done something so quickly, and he replied 'I started at the finishline', then turned to me and another muso and said 'hey, it's a lyric!'. I thought it would be better as a negative (more emotive), and that evening I sat at the piano and the first verse with melody and chorus just came out all together at one time, and I haven't editted since. the other verses came very quickly... I've had some old emotions to reconcile within myself. I was kind of surprised by what came out - one of those 'where did that come from' moments!

Glad you liked it! I will take a look at evening off the vox. Difficult to do when I can only do headphone mixes, but I'll give it a go [might have to wait a couple of weeks: I'm off to Cornwall for a fortnight on monday (so will miss the next KVR bash...again!)].

Ta for listening!

Well... I did find time before going away. I've fixed a bum note in the guitar solo, and smoothed out the lower end of the vox (I hope!).

Same link as first post.
