Who still used soundfonts [sf2] in 2016?

Besides myself, who else used free and/or commercial soundfonts?

I purchased the Proteus Pack from Digital Sound Factory, most because I need basic bread and butter sounds [which I have with Proteus 2000 by itself :D ]. And just getting all 6 packs [especially Xtreme Lead-1 & Mo' Phatt] at $99 really is a good deal, IMO of course.

My only complain concerning free soundfonts is that there are too many of them gear toward classical. Excuse me, but it would be nice to have more free soundfonts to be used for other genres as well. Wishful thinking.

I bought a few Digital sound factory sf2 packages.
One of them had 1500 sounds.
I don't use sounds for music making though.
I use them for helping me re-create, or influence my synth sound creations, for other synths.
Yet the best ones I've heard that are mostly synth based, and very well done, are these from
from Soundcell.
Check these out if you haven't yet.

edit: though looking at this now, I think it's been discontinued.
Maybe a longer search might turn up something though.

Ask Jeremy here about them.

I do

I don't see myself stopping using them as long as they are supported by Kontakt

Post

never did...

:?

sd2 (in early begginings of audio sofware editors like sound sculptor on Mac in the mid-90ties), aiff, .wav ....no other formats

I still use both SF2 and SFZ....they don't have a big CPU hit or RAM footprint. I have no interest in Mega GB libraries or Uber synths. My kit is far from state of the art but it gets the job done.

Wusik synths are supposed to support SF2 and SFZ files, I believe.

Is this a new change, William? I thought WusikStation 6.5 and/or 7 loaded SF2 or SFZ files. I thought I read that somewhere.

SFZ, sorry, I wrote SFX, but I mean SFZ. :dog:

No need to apologize. :) sfz is a good format. My only problem is finding a good sfz player that will not crash inside LMMS.

Same here, quite decent free instruments and no need for an up to date computer.
A jazz example,

I've pretty much stopped using sf2 but I know people in the Linux community are still using them. The last tune I've made using sf2 is this one:

https://soundcloud.com/samplesciencemtl ... -downtempo

Made in LMMS using only free sf2.

That's a nice piece! I left some comments on SC.

What's LMMS?
