So i bought Cubase 8.5 - question about these audio drop outs when adding vsti?

1. I have a loop playing
2. I then load another vsti, while the loop is playing
3. Cubase always drops out audio for a second or two, depending on the vsti

question is this normal behavior? I've been using studio one as well as other daws, for a few years, and never have this issue with bitwig, reaper,or ableton..

Is the audio engine in cubase this terrible or is there a setting to remove this audio dropout?
This seems very unprofessional, do people really get along with cubase like this?

I notice this anytime I try to drag in a loop from mediabay, or as mentioned adding another vsti,it does this.
Are there any cubase users that can test this or perhaps they know of a fix to make the process more smooth, that would be appreciated. Or is this just the way Cubase reacts?

Thanks if u can shed some light

ps my cpu is plenty strong ;) and as mentioned I've never had this issue with my other daws.

Cubase has unique asio guard. So it may or may not be related. For your information, you can't do gap less insert in any daw unless it doesn't have latency.

This is normal. You often get dropouts when adding fx and when saving, etc.

Excuse me? I just mentioned the above daws that never do this. So I'm not sure what you meant by that ;)

That is just you didn't notice or you don't have those plugin. So don't worry.

Depending on the plugin I load determines whether or not I get brief dropouts or video freeze.

Most of the time nothing happens. Occasionally, especially with Kontakt, while it is loading I can do nothing else within the DAW. On a rare occasion, such as loading huge samples into Kontakt I get some audio pausing...usually a split second at the most. But it is rare.

This has everything to do with hard disk streaming and loading and little to do with CPU.

It may be rare for me because all of my samples are on two SSDs while my application is on another. Additionally my stored projects are on a 4th SSD.

Rest of my specs are below.

nvm

did you not notice this in your cubase elements/pro trial?

Do you have AISO Guard on? If so try turning it off and see what happens.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, my samples as well as projects are equally on ssd's. I even notice this dropout with small vsts such as loopmash. Its enough to drive me a bit batty. Thanks for the reply my friend.

Same thing happens, perhaps slightly better, but still enough to annoy me. Thanks for the reply as well..

What could possibly disqualify a DAW software host because you want to insert a VSTi in REAL time while looping and not hear some sort of hick-up or audio glitch. Do you have any real world recording or producing experience? What possible scenario does this purpose?

Post

I've been producing music for around ten years, if your asking if I've have any professional experience, the answers yes.I've produced records for artists who've made it on the radio, shot video's etc. and I've made money with music,if that sort of thing is important to know, well now you do. Most of all though,I enjoy what I do.
I used to use cubase as well as Nuendo years back in one of the studios SX3 I believe was the last version,I used though I didn't remember this glitch. Obviously I jumped in head first without testing the waters. Adding instruments with Mediabay is an awesome thing, but this glitch makes it sort of a downer for me.

The question your asking is does it really matter enough to stop me from working with it? That answers no ,but i find it messes up the timing with my Mpc Touch and that glitch throws it all to hell. So do I have a reason to complain, well thats for me to decide, and you to judge.

I'll stick with what works for me well, and continue to watch progress from steinberg,to see if it changes in an update or something. They'd probably have to scrap the entire audio engine though to fix this?
