The similarities are striking, that however rotten the analogue/digital debate has gotten, there is always somebody who will want to dig it up later to flog it once more
Edit: Let's revive the analog vs. digital debate once and for all

They thought they had buried Oliver Cromwell, but then later somebody else dug him up to string him up

I wonder why you're so bothered about going on and on about it instead of making music.AnX wrote:Given the thread topic it seems obvious, and as im not arguing with the OP, the random stats have zero relevance.whyterabbyt wrote:You didnt delimit 'arguing'.AnX wrote:How many of mine are arguing about A vs D?whyterabbyt wrote:IncarnateX : averages 0.91 posts per dayAnX wrote:I find making music rather than arguing on the net is much more fun....

An idiot on Set Theory:

Still it is just half of what the launch price was back in '81, £4,000 then is something like £15-20,000 nowBoardwalk wrote:Almost brand new looking Jupiter 8. Bidding started yesterday at €4,500. Last bid: €9,000.

Pretty ironic that you start another debate then.IncarnateX wrote:frankly: What have you ever learned form the debates anyway? They are entertaining all right but basically a waste of time, aren't they? Have you ever changed your preferences and ideas about analog or digital gear due to a debate?

Which I find pretty ironic.

Swapping of modules is not gonna make it alone in these new times and is based on comparison between originals and DIVA as an emulator. But granted that DIVAs emulation cababilities is the lesser point, what can she do as a (di)VA that beats other VAs?Urs wrote:None of the dinosaurs she can impersonate can swap modules just like that - that's a hard to beat advantage of her digital nature, and what sets her apart from her analogue siblings.IncarnateX wrote:A synth like DIVA should be more promoted on the things it can do beyond "emulation" and get it's very own identity.

Do you guys, in pvt life, let's say in a dinner with friends, when soe comes with a subject that was debated a few meetings ago, tell him to f**k off, we talked about it before ? I hope not outside an ironic reply ! Mostly because the situation has changed, time flows away.
Also, every time I actually meet friends in the music or audio industry, we naturally come to this discussion (offline we are not into the KVRish attitude of controlling that much what comes out of our mouths).
I think the guy doesn't deserve that bashing. I am actually participating to this discussion, whilst I am the kind who checks KVR daily... without mentionning anything in years. And out of a sudden, I wanted, when I saw the thread to know what was the average viewpoint on this TODAY.
The debate will never be closed : we will produce resistors with a better tolerance and on the other hand faster CPUs.
Morevoer, beyond the 01 vs. analog, the discrecte versus continuity debate will never close I beleive, it is close to the time perception paradigm.
....
so, to come back to the question, some personnal, in total desorder, remarks, based on my own f**king subjective life...
I love modulars to play, I mean, like a child plays toys. They help me think outside the box, to come up with stuff that I had clearly not anticipated, both in terms of colours and rhythms (logic gates, comparators, etc).
I love VSTs when I need quick efficency, horizontal composition, ez control, VCAs with right clicking without opening a new tab to empty my CC at Analogue Haven.
I manage to get some sounds out of my modular that are still not done in the digital world, and vice versa.
In a live situation (I use a part of my modular plus a Live set-up), I use both, but, honnestly, when I want to keep some energy running, I rely on the solid frame work on the digital environment. Yeah, you have this LED show, which gives you that credibiliy (oh my...). Mostly the audience does not give a f**k, they close their eyes, travel and/or dance.
....
have a nice day.

Dinner? Friends??hangars liquides wrote:Do you guys, in pvt life, let's say in a dinner with friends, when soe comes with a subject that was debated a few meetings ago, tell him to f**k off, we talked about it before ?
In certain cases such as this 'hot' topic, the discussion is best cut off quickly. The favourable (and correct) resolution is that we conclude that the only thing that is important is what works for the user at that time. However, normally the threads end up closed with the possibility of a few members being banned along the way
If I had a group of friends trying to discuss the same things that always ended up in a fight, or just agreeing that everyone should make up their own mind, then yes, I'd tell them to find a new topic, or f**k off
I think the op has been around long enough, and seen enough of these threads, to realise there will never be an end to this nonsense, so I don't get the impetus for yet another round

The clear advantage, and largest difference of software over hardware, is that software has a far superior price point.
The other differences are of no real importance to those who can't afford hardware synths...like me.
Though I love the cheap hardware microkorg that I own.
It can't do what a Diva like synth can, and vice versa.
That said, I do agree with the second post of this thread.
That is something that is actually worth the extra cost.

Seems pretty silly to not speak up and tell someone what you're thinking about the subject. Sometimes your thoughts on the subject are "Shut the f**k up, we already ruined a dinner over this."
