Hi all, long time lurker here.

I'm writing a synth, and obviously getting feedback is very useful. But before I post a beta and ask for comments, I am wondering first if this is an OK thing to do, or if there is some etiquette to follow?

Is there a section on this forum for such things, and does anyone have suggestions as to how to move forward?

At the moment I have a playable (not vst) executable version for windows, which is stable.

I'm also on the lookout for possible collaborators.

releasing a vst to any effect is largely a matter of attitude, perhaps seduction. if you know how to act as if you've got something people would gladly rip their own head off for without eliciting criticism for your manner, which takes some insight into the western mentality, you may have a chance :)

there is no protocol or etiquette, it's the marketplace. if you simply present your work in an open, honest manner, you'll probably have a few people who are interested and will try out your vst and maybe some of them will offer actual honest user feedback. but, though i'll draw fire for saying so, this industry, as are most, is more about the excitement, satiation, desire, consumerism, wannabeism than the actual facility your product offers. and there are a lot of people who will manufacture disinterest in your product, act like you are rude or "doing it wrong" to try and dissuade people from noticing it.

take a look at slick product releases - you get two seconds of audio, and five minutes of "with-it" looking guys telling each other how great the software is, and how they've been waiting for years for something like it, and *zero* seconds of informative content about the process, what it does, or how it does it. only sensationalism.

if you can't (or won't..) do that, try honest, and don't be swayed.

This is very wise advice xoxos and I shall consider it carefully. Thankyou.

good luck, and remember, i also have an implicit agenda in my advice (helping people to be more aware of coercion and subversion techniques).
