Hi,

If you have plug-ins that are only available in VST3 format and your host application does not support it, you might be interested in knowing that we have just released an update for Blue Cat's PatchWork and MB-7 Mixer that lets you load VST3 plug-ins in most DAWs (AAX, VST2, VST3, RTAS, AU and DirectX formats available).

Blue Cat's PatchWork is also available as a standalone application, acting as a lightweight mini-DAW for live performance, hosting virtual instruments and/or effects.

As usual, the update is free for existing customers. Enjoy!

Cool - does it support vstpresets too?

I tend to use Bidule for this sort of thing but an alternative may be of interest if it does what I need

You cannot load vstpreset files for the moment.

Pity, that reduces its usefulness somewhat. At least you can in Bidule. Is that still the case for aupresets too, I seem to remember asking this a year or more ago?

That's right, we do not support loading format-specific presets at the moment.

Oh well at least there is Bidule that has perfect support for VST 2, 3 and AU plugins - unlike hosts and subhosts that only go part of the way. I just don't get host developers that think it's OK to just load the plugin but not also make it possible to load and save its presets, I mean isn't one of the main points of having software plugins (as opposed to analog hardware) the fact that you can store and recall their states using presets? They should be seen as part and parcel of providing complete support for the plugin format.

I don't have a comprehensive list, but it seems (from customer requests) that there are a few of them, by Roland, Steinberg, Yamaha...

afaik the Roland ones were VST3 only when they first came out but now have VST2 versions too (and presumably AU on Mac?)

Steinberg plugins on Mac only have VST3 and AU - no VST2 - not sure if that means they only have VST3 on Windows.
