Are generators truly randomized, or are they generated from a database of pre-written phrases, melodies, etc.?
Do the previous/next arrows of a phrase, etc. generate variations of the phrase or other object on the fly?
How many different variations are generated?

Good question, Jim. They are truly randomized. There are no pre-written phrases or melodies.
The number of variations is unlimited in theory but in practice the number of 'states' (number of notes, possible note values, note placement in time) limit the possible count. For example a phrase consisting of 3 notes does not have too many variations.
