I wrote a blog post about this a while back while designing the original GUI:
http://psychicmodulation.com/blog/2012/ ... spiration/
The inspiration comes from vintage electronic devices. It's based on what I imagine a synthesizer used in these video logos would look like today. An obscure device from the late 70s or early 80s, minimalist in design, slightly yellowed with age.
Oh, I didn't know that about the yellowish color, so forget my design a couple of posts back :hihi:
Was it white plastic that turned yellow? All our devices I remember from the 70s were made of wood, metal, and black plastic :) Maybe it was the Grundig style, we had only Grundig stuff :hihi:

And our radio:

Nice tape machine!

A lot of white plastic items from that period seem to have taken on a yellowish tone over time. Or maybe that was a popular color of the time. Like olive green. Anyhow I have a vintage touch tone telephone that I based the color on.

Thanks for referring me to your blog post...very nice...especially the Flickr link and particularly the BRAUN selections. If I am not mistaken a lot of it came from the Dieter Rams design group, the inspiration for Apple's designs.

I love Dieter Rams design! My first plugin (Thales Model I) is inspired by one of his radio design for Braun.

As for Phonec 2 design, I think it looks great! :tu:

I f**ing love this synth! Sure the gui is a little fiddly to work with due to the small sliders but the sound overwrite's all of those woes in an instant. Great work!

This is one funky sounding synth. And even though the GUI is small, the contrast of the fonts to the background makes it so it's not so hard to read. I may actually pick this up if I don't win it in the raffle.

Post

I had forgotten that I meant to pick this up.

I've been experimenting with similar post processing of various synths, trying to imagine a signal chain in which the original synth was passed through a compressor (Presswerk), recorded to a master tape (Satin), recorded to a cheap cassette (Satin), played back on a faulty deck with unstable motors (Mxxx, izotope vinyl) through cheap speakers (Speakerphone), then sampled into an old sampler (Decimort).

Yeah, I think it's probably easier just to buy Phonec.

Does anyone know if the AU issue of not showing up in hosts has been resolved?

Post

Bought it :tu:

Would be nice to see the aftertouch be polyphonic.

Yes, I'd love to see (interim) MPE support on this.
