How do you usually archive your sample libraries, plugin and software installers? I'm especially concerned about those older instruments and sample libraries that were discontinued / are no longer available for sale / with no support (for example, the Windows version of Alchemy and its libraries). Do you keep the installation files on external hard drives, checking them for any file errors on a regular basis? Or on DVDs? Online cloud storage? CDs and DVDs tend to be pretty volatile so I think I will have to make ISO versions of my older software (like Edirol Orchestral) and put them on maybe 2 separate hard drives (in case one of them dies). I spent a lot of money on music software and I don't want to lose what I paid for in 5 or 10 years. There are some old instruments and effects that I will probably keep an old-generation PC for, just to be able to use them in the future because I still like them so much.

I keep two backup copies of anything I ever bought

Should both copies fail (highly unlikely) I can at least look forward to bitching about it at KVR

Same here. Two drives synced regularly. FreeFileSync is great for that.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Great, good to know. Do you also make iso files of older discs you bought?

I have Kontakt 8 ISO's backed up twice

There is no perfect backup solution, only varying degrees of obsessiveness. I keep backups on two external drives, one of which I keep offsite, and occasionally swap them. I also have automated backups running to a five bay Drobo.

Any long-term backup strategy should really include something like an LTO tape backup, but that is extremely pricey. Back in the old days, DAT was an affordable tape backup solution, but there is nothing equivalent now in the consumer price range.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I keep my two copies in different places, so that any fire or burgarly can't destroy/lose both at the same time
