That tiny little low res arranger screen graphic is a really annoying teaser. Looks nice though. I'll be interested to see the vids when they let the cat fully out of the bag.

It kinda looks like it doesn't need a daw, or actually is a daw for post / playback / mix purposes.

VST3 instruments only is kind of a bummer. I don't even install those. The price is high, but is that MSRP? I wonder what street will be.

From the development diary posts, this could be the be-all, end-all notation software solution. Their intentions were to make a notation product that would be good at everything, and seem to have put a lot of thought into how to do that, which I have to respect.

It's been a long road already for this software. I remember years ago with Stein poached Dan Spreadbury and his gaggle of Swindonians from Avid.

But I am not sure about the name. Too close to Dorito?

I want to create notation software called "Yes-Tation."

So, it's a musical editor with integrated DAW functionality? Price is high, so i guess it's a pretty complex program.

I think the Dan guy said that they will allow certain well behaved vst2 plugins like Kontakt and similar, that the vst3 only thing is not quite that literal. But yeah, not supporting Kontakt, arguably the most popular sampler on the planet, wouldn't make very much sense, and it's not vst 3 I don't think.

On another note, reading the Dorico pre-release forum there was like being in an alternate universe, watching a developer at Steinberg answer multiple questions and engaging with multiple potential users directly.

As Steiny goes in general, it felt like the bizarro (or the George Costanza "opposite") version of the Cubase forums.

He's very engaged there.

I was a little surprised by their level of transparency when it came to the development diaries. And if that wasn't enough, they created an open (free for anyone to use) music font in the creation of this, which is very not-Stienberg-y of them. It's clear that this is being handled differently than Cubase, and that make me optimistic.

price is too high for my blood. Too many notational programs I already invested in....and even some free ones that get the job done great. It will be interesting to see whether they have actually brought something to the marketplace that will distinguish itself in someway to be worth that kind of money to most people that are already heavily invested in DAW's and notationals. Its a great team of devs, but we'll see. its a lot of money....it will have to introduce something truly revolutionary to get my bucks...and even then it might not.

Quite expensive... even for me cross grading from Sibelius 6 :-/
But will be interesting to see how this is received.
I'm guessing it's going to require a dongle too.
