Since a couple of days I'm facing a problem with my terratec audio card. The MIDI input simply doesn't work, while all the other connection audio/midi output seem to be OK.
I was wondering if it could happen that only a MIDI in connection broke - but I don't believe it's a hardware problem because the pc has been there for months without moving
Is there any test I could make top check?

What tests have you gone through? Could be cabling,midi turned off somewhere,different input channels,I usually set to omni unless I'm using two or more midi channels.
Are you midi out of a keyboard to midi in to your host?

yes MIDI out from the keyboard to MIDI in the host;
the system has been working for months without any issue.
I didn't make any change in the setup exept for installing guitar rig demo (last friday).
I didn't use MIDI in since last monday so I can't tell for sure that it worked before installing guitar rig, but I have a bad feeling.
I don't know if it's correct but as I understand Guitar rig get the MIDI data speech (between the RIG HW and the PC) directly from the audio cable, not thruogh a normal MIDI connection. "A MIDI interface for transferring control data from the foot controller is not necessary, since the data is silently transferred over line and recognized by the software." Of course I spent all the day to "spipolare" (means rendomly press button and turning knobs) and for sure I activated the RIG control- that of course I don't own (later turned of)
And my worries are that since I installed GR, my system want MIDI in data through AUDIO cables too. (MIDI out and AUDIO connections are OK with no issues).
Anyway I formatted the disk and re-installed everything but no succes.
So my question (before changing the terratec or bying a SB for MIDI connection) is:
is it possible in your opinion that GR ruined the card?

Sorry to hear you had to format,,kind of a unique problem though,,but if your sure midi in should be there after,,say,, uninstalling guitar rig and rechecking bios, os and host,,I guess you could try a continuity check through the midi in,,that will at least tell you whether the signal is getting through...
