Project 5 is just a poor mans Ableton Lite, why would Cakewalk want to rejuvinate that

My feeling is for you to wait and see.

If you are as impatient as me then stay with Sonar as you already know it.

For me Sonar as it is the only DAW that has all the features I need and want though it does not not have my favorite workflow. The ARA is a must for me so S1 not Reaper will be the second choice.

Reaper and all the top DAW's are so good that you really cannot go wrong. I have a document that list all the features I require. I also list all the main DAW's with notes on why I like them and why I do not. Sonar right now is on top of the list. If S1 had 32 to 64 bit bridge it will likely be number one.

My lifetime fee was $99 USD since I upgraded this January. Considering that's less than they usually charge per upgrade/year for continued updates, was well worth it.

They may release a new product eventually but if you follow what they are doing now, I don't see that happening for a long time and at $99, even if they closed up Sonar in 2 years in favour of a new DAW, I already paid for those two years cheaper than it otherwise would have been. So win-win.

If you renewed this year already, it will be lower via the link in the email. It's all based on when you last paid for the annual renewal.

I've had mostly very good experiences with CW going back 20 years, but I've wasted some money along the way, and I've complained in both of the last 2 years about various things.

Having said that, the last 3 years have been the best run I've had with them. X3 was rock-solid for me and last year was very impressive: But I really wasn't going to upgrade SPLAT this year (with minimal info) until the price was $99 and not $199 as CW had hinted it would be a year before.

So now I'm offered "lifetime membership" for $99 for core features/improvements/bug fixes and have until Aug. 31st to lay out the cash? I trust them way too much to turn that down.

My money in regards to the announcement is on a new installer that actually installs.

A 'Pro' version of an installer? What a novel idea for Cakewalk to put forward!
Slyly opens the door for official lite versions of installers, that put everything
in one folder, instead of spraying bits and pieces in 5 or 6 disparate locations.
Wait, wouldn't that be like Reapers 'portable install'? Turning lite into a feature?

Maybe Samsung are buying the parent company, and they're all going Android...
Maybe they're going for cloud based mastering apps and services...
Maybe it'll be algorithmic hit making, to appease the income inequalities
in the music biz...

Cakewalk must really have a cash flow problem if they are offering "lifetime" upgrades for what would amount to be pennies in the dollar...

For most companies with a solid product and a reasonably sized user base,this is a not a good business decision...

I have been a Cakewalk user since the stone age - Pro Audio 9 - and Sonar x3e Pro x64 is my daily driver...

It's a great DAW...

Rock solid and with all of the features I need for the centerpiece of a modern professional recording environment..

But it was a red flag to me when Henry da vandal took over the company because his reputation is less than stellar...

So I haven't upgraded to the new "Sonar subscription series" because I wanted to see where things were going with the new Cakewalk...

As a vote of confidence in the future direction of Cakewalk,I recently upgraded to REAPER 5
