But there's a lot of other ways to spend $99 on new drum samples.

So tell me please - why is Geist 2 better?
Geist 2 is a huge improvement over Geist 1

Biggest... the resizable interface. Geist 1 is great as is, but it is too small for modern hi resolution screen. Geist 2 addresses that and does so well. Browser can now also be expanded.

The Transmod modulation system

Individual track lengths

Slice more than 16 slices (now up to 64)

Sampling straight to pads

and more...

Geist 1 was already the best sample based performance drum machine available. Geist 2 is significantly better.

Modulation, polyrhythms, and step probability all adds up to a pretty dynamic sequencer for lazy drum programmers such as myself. Plus the new GUI, new effects, enhanced slicing, and so on. It all adds up to a pretty decent upgrade, and makes me want to actually start using Geist again!
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I agree with all the stuff pdxindy and deastman stated. And I will add that for me the browser in Guru and Geist 1 was horrible. I hated it. A resizable interface on my 27-inch monitor plus the new transmod system and some of the other effects added in as well is worth the upgrade price in my humble opinion. But that's just me I don't know if that makes you want to spend $99.

Its a really deep instrument now. And I think it's Best In Class by quite a bit. The sampling and sound sculpting capabilities are pretty impressive. Add to that a kickass sequencer and I don't see what else comes close (feature-wise) other than a complete daw like Live or Bitwig.

And I'm still trying to wrap my head around the possibilities at hand with probability and transmod stuff. Geist1 now feels like Geist-lite. Like its a free magware version.

But if a Geist 1 user takes a sample and slice it in 4 pieces, save those four slices, and then slice each of those four in 16 pieces, wouldn't the result be the same?

A bit more work involved, but still doable in Geist 1

Seems everyone agrees it's a big upgrade... real question is, does it surpass Nerve now?

Interesting. Can it do step-input programming (909) using generic/dumb midi drumpads?

It does with a touch screen

Thought that I was going to have regretted selling the frst one, but no

It's still a great plugin, but just way more than I needed (Now, even more so). The only thing that I would really want is the automatic/threshold sample to pad business

Cheers!
If you needed new shoes that bad, you could have done an intro offer where the prices were cheaper for a limited time.

Jus' sayin'!
Badly judged joke!! Sorry folks. :dog:

That's cool actually. I quite fancy trying it out on a Surface tablet!

Is the 2 included expansion offer permanent or for a limited time?

I don't understand why some developers overlook features like Quantization strength. I see a means to alter the timing in Geist (post editing) but there only seems to be hard Qtz available? I also don't see a means to record different note values in the same pattern? If this is the case, I don't see the sequencer aspect as being particularly kickass although the sound sculpting abilities are!

Because the gods of drum software command it.
