Sorry to take the topic off course, since I don't recall there ever being a book--

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow looks interesting. It'll be either a cataclysmic failure, or a monstrous success. Or both... it might be a failure in most regards, but the design and visual concept is a successful tribute to art deco and early sci-fi already.

I reached page 7 before I got too excited to carry on reading your picks...

Dan Simmons says:
“Yes, Virginia, there is a Hyperion movie in the works. It has been optioned by a top-notch studio, is slated to be directed by a top-name director, and already has the involvement of a top-flight movie star. Screenwriters have been attached to the project and a first draft screenplay is expected soon.
Others I would like to see on the silver screen:

(We've already got the Clarkes, Asimovs, Gibsons and Nivens all sorted out so I won't repeat them)

Brian Aldiss : Helliconia books

Octavia Butler : Xenogenesis books

(The Oankali would look great on screen :))

Ray Loriga : Tokyo doesn't love us anymore

Very cinematic book, would prolly draw bigger audiences than trad. ufoscifi.

Vernor Vinge : those two fat books

Just for the sake of entertainment.

There sure are a lot of Dick lovers at K-v-R.

Michael Marshall Smith - One of Us ... just to see the scene of herds of toasters migrating across america, and the main star being chased by an irate alarm clock. :hihi: ... I think warner has the right to the script but not sure...

I would have said Jeff Noon's Vurt... but I can't see that working as a film... to much play on words... and besides I'm sure vurt would have already mentioned this... :)
