I want to record with an 8 channel audiointerface (Behringer FCA1616) via Jack.
Internal routing via Jack between my Software (Samplitude and MaxMSP) with all 8 channels functions well but: in the Jack Audio connection Kit only 2 channels as system inputs/outputs are recognised.

My goal is to route the input from MaxMSP to Samplitude while recording 8 channels. At the moment I can solve this only by patching the output from Max back as input of Samplitude via cable at the audiointerface. This limits my recording system to 4 instead of 8 channels.

Windows 7, 64 bit

How many channels did you tell jackd to start with? Run Jack Control, go into Setup, look at "Channels I/O". If you need 8 and 8, stop the server, set the numbers to be what you want and start the server.

pljones thanks for your reply. I have given 10 channels as Channles I/O as you can see in the attatched screenshot of my jack setup.

Even in the .ini file in the programm duirectory I have experimented with diefferent numbers of channels. But never I get more than these 2 under system!?

On the set up screen, the only thing I see is the "Channels" between "Wait (usec)" and "Port Maximum" -- I have mine at "(default)". I'm using an Echo AudioFire 4 - four analogue and two digital ins and out - and all six are available (though I only use it for stereo out). I've told Jack I want four channels I/O and I do see capture_1 to 4 and playback_1 to 4... so it should work... :?

Can you post a screen shot of the pop-out next to either of the Device selections?

Oh and does Behringer ASIO driver come with any configuration software that lets you "split" the I/O up? I think the Echo cards with more channels do (so some can be ASIO and some not).

Post

Yes, Behringer FCA1616 has an Asio Driver and configuration software. the driver is - I suppose - a general Asio driver not product specific for this audiointerface. It is a product not very well suited for my purpose. My trouble is eventually because of that.

I made some fotos:

In Jack Control, not the drop down content but the pop-out next to the drop down is what I was after (the ">" button) - mostly to see how PortAudio was picking up the device from other drivers.

Alternatively, try using the ASIO driver directly rather than through Jack and see what ports are shown. For example, in MuLab, if I go to the Audio Setup and look under Select Inputs or Outputs, the ASIO driver has supplied the six channels I mentioned earlier and they're listed there.

in samplitude, max and any other audio programm all channels are recognised. I have this problem just with jack.

My purpose is to analyse 8 - channel sound in realtime in Max (cycling74.com) and record it with all 8 channels in samplitude at the same time (realtime delays are no problem). This setting I can only realize with Jack, I suppose. And my Jack attempts with intern routing are promising.

Attatched the fotos from the drop next menu (In and Out):

It's very odd and I'm pretty much out of suggestions, unfortunately. I take it you're starting Jack before any other audio application? (And you've the latest drivers, etc.)

Post

Yes, I start Jack before any other audio application. But.... the Behringer audio configuration software is running automatically from startup in windows. So it might could be that this occupies the Ins and Outs? I will follow this hint tomorrow.

I installed Jack perhaps one month ago. I will check if there are more actual drivers.

thanks.

The only additional hint I can add is this.

I have six available channels (analogue 1 to 4, s/pdif 1 to 2). If I tell Jack Control I want 12 channels in and out, I only get six anyway, as there are only six. If I tell it I only want 4, I get four. So the fact you're getting two means that it's finding only two available. I see you have s/pdif channels and I'm wondering if that's the two being found -- i.e. something else has taken up the analogue channels before Jack gets to them.

I don't see any other sound device on your system, so I'm also wondering what sound device Windows is using -- if it's taking over the Behringer, that could be why Jack won't - but I'm not sure at all.

Maybe you could try with Virtual Audio Cable: http://ntonyx.com/vac.htm

@pljones: Windows is using behringer, it gives two channels for windows. I have deactivated the onboard audio device.
thanks fmr for that hint. I will look at that.

Personally, I let Windows use onboard audio to keep my ASIO soundcard free from "contamination".

... activating onboard audio... yes this could be worth a try. thanks.
