How about the Fruity Loops Forums?

(Not that you would get answers there though ;) )

Considering that they just recently put out a boxed edition at your friendly neighborhood guitar center that doesn't offer lifetime updates (but which you can buy) I would estimate early 2005, as to not piss off the boxed owners. Mabey as early as December, for image-line likes to do promotionals around the holidays. Its not the fact that they should be concentrating on update, they are consistently (save for the intermittent battles about pianos and the sytrus sounds that gol is into) and you can pick up the lastest betas at the website such as the wrapper and video-player. The question I would like to ask is why your asking for the update...is there something that needs to be changed immidietly? Personally I find it a pain in the ass when they upgrade (moving all those files and all), not to mention all the 78IQupermiddleclasswannabehiphoploadingloopsuperstars that seem to flood the FL forums every time a new version comes along.

Bottom line, after thinking for a while, IL is stuck with permenent lifetime upgrades. They are also stuck with a shit-load of bootleg 3.5 users who will "purchase the software after the next upgrade", which is free anyway (not saying this is the case with you, don't really care if it is). What IL needs to be working on are Expansion Packs to thier allready great software. Specialized stuff pertaining to different generas, mixing stuff, etc. (come up with your own ideas). Pretty much, except for sytrus which was $79, its all been maitenence, personally I wopuld like to see, and pay for real expansion to an allready great piece of software.

My two cent, sorry about the spelling.

nay,
i think the program itself could benefit from some additional work.....

I wont say that theyre flaws but a upgrade to a few areas may help me for what im looking for ....

its all about Work Flow

:)

if you mean expansions as in sounds or instruments?
I feel that is a waste, and not a real update....

Vsts and sample cds/drum sounds are here for a reason,i dont think many people would mind if FL came without sounds at all....

just my .02

given some exchanges I've read I wouldn't expect any workflow enhancements in a new version.

Image Line has a rather unique attitude in the world of consumer products. I believe it would be much easier and even healthier/better for you to adapt to the way FLStudio works at present than wage any sort of campaign for change. That would also include any expectation of change.
That way if anything does change it will be a very pleasant surprise.

Image Line through Sound Fusion has posted two more sample CDs of material, much of which is available to registered FLStudio users. So content continues to expand.

They can get out of the Lifetime Free Upgrades by simply giving the program a new name... Like they did when they changed Fruity Loops to 'FLStudio', thereby renegging on the original 'Lifetime Free Upgrades' which FruityLoops owners thought they had...

If they genuinely had REAL free lifetime upgrades, I might consider using their software. As it is, all they have to do is add enough features for THEM to justify renaming the product, and they get out of it. Which is very unethical, IMHO.

If they end up selling only 50,000 copies over 10 years, at £50 profit, that's only £2.5 MILLION pounds...

So the lifetime upgrade deal IS feasible.

i've been a Fruityloops user with a "lifetime free upgrades". now i'm a FLStudio owner and my "lifetime free upgrades" is still applying...

there was a (small) price to upgrade to FLStudio Producer Edition (it was a MAJOR enhancement), that's right, but it was worth it, i can tell you.

EDIT: adding 'Producer Edition' for the sake of clarity

Once again, every Fruityloops 3.X user with lifetime updates has received FLStudio 4.0 Fruityloops Edition at no charge.

What does it mean? It means that Mr. XG2 posted non-factual information, something that did not happen, something that was made up and presented as fact. A lie.

The purpose of lying is unknown to me. Why did you lie XG2?

the updates are still free.

There are a few things that I think could really help people using FLStudio.

There is functionality of the application that could be drastically updated. Here are some that come to mind:

#1 AUDIO TRACKS SUPPORT: The audio tracks functionality seems new and it not polished. I have having to specify a wav name every time I want to record an Audio Track. I really wish they could make the Audio Tracks a bit more like Cubase SX. This make it alot easier to sell this product to potential Cubase SX / Nuendo / Sonar / Pro Tools users. Right now it's just easier for to use Cubase SX to record guitar, etc.

#2 MIDI SYNC SUPPORT: Right now it seems like you can only sync (for arps, delays, lfo's, etc) to one MIDI port. So if you have a rack full of synths you can only sync with one of them. It doesn't even seem like a major update to allow multiple sync'able MIDI ports.

If these two application functionaly issues were worked on, I'd bet IL would get alot more customers and happier FLStudio users!

I agree with this point. I think they should make the audio tracks into actual "tracks" and not "clips", so that the bottom of the playlist has 99 audio "tracks". That way you could arm the track to record as opposed to the mixer, which is probably the more traditional way of working with audio.

I'd love more extensive audio track recording features as well as support for time signature changes, loop recording for MIDI as well as audio... all the stuff they're sick of hearing about.

I've heard people argue that Fruityloops "isn't trying to be a full-featured DAW like Cubase and I'm happy for that". I too am very happy that Fruity is different and I was content with using Fruityloops alongside Cubase. But now that there's the Fruityloops & Producer Editions, I'd expect them to continue their original vision with the Fruityloops Edition and build up the Producer Edition into a full-featured DAW.

Recording audio in FL is a complete pain. It truely would be the only app I would ever use if it had the functionality of something as simple as Traction, or indeed Cubase. You are absolutely right - we need tracks not clips. Hit R to record something, backspace to wipe it, and R to have another go. Easy!
