Live Performance Idea - Thoughts??

Hey,
Had a little idea for doing loop-based performance using Renoise (and potentially any other) tracker. I know many tracker sceptics will be running now, but bear with me. (The tracker fans will understand best, maybe someone explains better than me!)
If you wanted to do loop-based performance like Ableton Live, there is a way. Kind of.
If you create a small pattern (Say 32 steps long) and set it to loop at 1/4 or 1/8 the normal speed(say 130bpm), then you have a continual loop into which you can easily place audio to loop, or trigger one-off parts, and control muting/FX/mixing on each channel with a midi controller. You could also play VSTi live from the midi keyboard.
Bearing in mind that renoise can auto-fit loops to the track speed etc, and has built-in sample-editing, send buses are available, and tracks can have automation curves for ANY parameter, you have a potentially very powerful loop performance tool.
Any suggestions are welcome. It just seems a very simple way to do live mixing/performance using audio.

Answer me someone!
I know the tracker-haters might be laughing, but i tried it and its actually a pretty decent way to do some live performance with samples.
I'm gonna try loading 2 renoises, see if i can sync them with midi clock, and then use one to preview through one soundcard, and the other to perform thru other sound card.
It might just work!

Might has well get audiomulch to do that. It's cheaply priced, made for live use. You have the loop players, you can play VSTis on top. VST effects, automation, record everything in realtime and more. You can connect/disconnect synths without worrying about the signal being broken.
It's has this neat document switcher where you can assign an audiomulch document to a midi notes, so that it will load it at a press of a note or you can just click on the document switcher directly. It support multi-outs card if ya wanna monitor something in the headphones.

Agree that Audiomulch is a good alternative to what you propose. From what I gather from the specs, Sonibytes' EST run in something like eXT would also be an option.
So this tracker proposition, you want to just set up a playing loop, and flip samples in and out of it in real time? Will trackers allow you that flexibility?
I'd always figured trackers weren't exactly built for live use in any function than as pre-made patterns.
Have you tried it out yet, quincy?

Yeah i have had a very quick play, and the basic idea works.
I have my 32-step looping pattern, running at say 1/4 normal speed, and once it is playing, i can place samples(without playing them when i keypress) and they will trigger when the play-position next goes thru them.
I will have a further play, but i think this idea has potential. Live VSTi playing can be done over the top with Midi keyboard, so it can handle proper semi-live performance.
Any suggestions are welcome, i'd love to see if this can develop into a really good system for live mixing.

EST is the one that works with samples? This one would be perfect for audiomulch. The only thing mulch can't do yet is transmit/receive midi from plugins. I believe it's in the pipeline somewhere.Agree that Audiomulch is a good alternative to what you propose. When you add a vsti or an effect, does the playback jump or it's continuous? I'm just asking cuz that pretty much a good selling point of something like Audiomulch or Ableton live.I will have a further play, but i think this idea has potential. I can't remeber if it was you that I suggested this to before. Only with FL Studio's Live mode, switching loops on and off and crossfading between 2 instances of FL. You would not be able to use looped wav files and change the BPM.
But I think you have a good idea. It would be fun to mix 2 or more of your own tracks live and turn them into something new. Almost like a new version of the song everytime it is played.

The whole track mixing thing might not work so well, because of the huge size of the samples. But its very easy to set up a live-alike loop jamming thing.tk421 wrote:I can't remeber if it was you that I suggested this to before. Once the looped pattern is playing, you can drop your tempo-synced samples in wherever you want, and trigger one-shots etc.
The other benefit is FX flexibility, because you can trigger multiple samples on a single track, therefore having a system where any sample can be played through any different FX cchannel. You can also set up send busses, so you could feed combinations ofd tracks through filters, compressors or whatever.
I have FLStudio, and the live mode is ok, but i didn't personally like it much.
