Last night I watched a movie called Vanilla Sky, the movie wasn't great, but it had heaps of good songs in it, I think Nancy Wilson was heavily featured.

Absolutely wonderful soundtrack. Amazing that the thread-starter mentioned a) not the run of the mill and b) really still my favorite.

However, I'm recommending banning you for "the movie wasn't great" :hihi:
The first scene where Kurt Russell popped and he was in custody I thought the disk had jumped to a later chapter, I was like "Did I miss something? :? ".
I had seen this movie at the Theater , I agree the music was great . Radioheads everything in its right place in surround sound deadening an incredible experience ... I totally forgot Kurt Russell was the Shrink in the movie ...
There are very few movies in my 51 years that I've paid to go see more than once. Star wars, purple rain, vanilla sky are really the only three that moved me enough for that. (well, I saw Jurassic Park a few times)

Hey, that reminds me............."PURPLE RAIN" :hyper:

When anyone mentions the Drive soundtrack they mostly talk about the cool electro music but for me the best music - in combination with a particular scene - is 'Oh My Love' from Riz Ortolani. It's one of the most brilliant combinations of audio with visuals ever, up there with Richard Strauss's music in 2001 where we first see the space shuttle or Ennio Morricone's pan flute in Once Upon A Time In America when the kids are attacked by the adult gang.
The juxtaposition of music and picture in all these examples are a testament to the the director/editor/composers brilliance.

Back when Heat, starring De Niro and Pacino, came out, I found Moby's 'A New Dawn Fades'-cover to lift a driving scene to another level.

Gridlock'd
A Clockwork Orange (The hybrid of SInging in The Rain and the Graphic nature of the scene, along with the choreography..oooch!!!)

From modern movies i really liked the soundtrack from Interstellar, Oblivion, Inception, Gravity...
I really like the stuff from Nightmare On Elm Street, The Thing (original) and the mighty Blade Runner.
From tv series i like Warehouse 13 and Games Of Thrones.
Twilight Zone was great too.... Oh there are so many. I have a ton of soundtracks on my smartphone to listen in the car while driving to work.
I mean the Nightmare theme fits very well when driving to work

Possibly my favourite film of all time. Amazing soundtrack too. The game S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow Of Chernobyl has an absolutely stunning dark ambient style soundtrack. Have you played it? Seeing as - I suspect - you're a gamer (with the Alice reference) you absolutely must play it if you haven't!!

I loved the Cliff Martinez ST for the 'interesting' remake of Solaris - one of my favourite OST's.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but as I've gotten older I sometimes find it a bit distracting when soundtracks include music from the great composers of the past, especially when it takes me a while to remember which piece it is.

One recent example:

Couperin's Les Barricades Mysterieuses

Berlioz' Agnus Dei

DUNE - Toto
glorious 80s synth-soaked soundtrack
