New to iPad: [1] best unique apps ? ...[2] does appstore 'wishlist' notify about sale prices ?

I suspect this may have been covered before, so if there's a good thread to check out let me know... though perhaps it would do no harm to have a bit of a 'refresh', considering apps like Moogs Modular 15 are just out.
I'm interested in those 'must have' apps ... apps I am aware of that are on my to-get list are Borderlands Granular, and Samplr .... I already have Moogs Filtatron and Animoog from using an itouch years ago.
My priority right now is in apps that sequence - particularly in odd ways. or apps that work with samples - granular stuff, sample manipulation, wavetable type stuff, modular stuff, stuff that you might consider unique ... in other words subtractive synths aren't really what I'm keen on installing right now. maybe later.
some apps that might be essential for inter-app communication and communicating audio/midi/osc to the outside world are a priority too. I'm aware of audiobus, audiocopy, audioshare ? ... i've lost track of the differing options - which is the best ? some apps only work with one ?
also, curious if adding an item to your appstore 'wishlist' will mean you'll get an email when/if the app goes on sale ? or is the only option to monitor forums, social media pages and developer websites to catch wind of such sales and promos ?
cheers

I think korg apps are cool. Visit discchord website. In my view it is the most comprehensive resource.

I would recommend the Audiobus forum. There are also a lot developers of these apps active.
There are so many tools out there for iOS.
KVR is nice but the wrong forum for iOS.

To track sales use appshopper.com. It will email you when an app on your want list gets a price drop. Although sometimes it's a bit slow to update (it still hasn't picked up that SoundPrism Link Edition is on sale).
Although I haven't got them yet, Fugue Machine and Patterning (currently on sale) are much talked-about sequencing apps. Also, if you have any iRig hardware, the full version of Cubasis LE can now be unlocked when you attach any of them. It's limited compared to the full Cubasis, but still a nice way of trying it out.
Discchord is the site to check out for all things iOS music. Plenty of news stories and reviews.
Oh and speaking of sales, Loopy HD is currently free.
Edit: And Audiobus is currently free too!

I am enjoying the iPad edition of Sugar Bytes Cyclop. It can make some gnarly sounds. Only scratched the surface, tho.

Sugar Bytes has several sequencer-centric apps that are 'ported' versions of their desktop ip:EdSevered wrote:I am enjoying the iPad edition of Sugar Bytes Cyclop. It can make some gnarly sounds. Only scratched the surface, tho.

Here's a couple of really unique apps that 'bend the mind' - very interesting to mess with (minimum):

Kool, I will keep an eye on that website. The korg apps do look kool....but pricey... I'll put them on my wishlist and see what kind of sale prices may come around. cheers!bronxsound wrote:I think korg apps are cool. Visit discchord website. In my view it is the most comprehensive resource.
thanks for the tip, I will register with that forum.Cinebient wrote:I would recommend the Audiobus forum. There are also a lot developers of these apps active.

appshopper seems perfect! thanks. i input all my 'owned' apps and my 'want' apps. hopefully they keep me posted on developments : )sprnva wrote:To track sales use appshopper.com. i happened to pick up loopy hd and audiobus already, not realising they were commercial apps temporarily on promotion : )
fugue and patterning I picked up too, luckily they were on sale as I was aware of them from some youtube vloggers I had looked up re: ios apps. they are very kool sequencing apps, thankfully they can be relied on to output midi and sequencer other gear.
cubasis is on my wishlist, unfortunately i got no hardware to use with cubasis le ...i will double check the features of both le and cubasis, maybe for what i need it would make more sense to pick up some irig device which i would use anyway, and get cubasis le as part of the deal. thanks for the tips
yep - very kool apps! cheersbronxsound wrote:and patterning is on sale now too.
fuge machine is an interesting one btw.
interesting, I have the vst of Cyclop as part of the sugar bytes bundle and dont use it all that much ... there are some things I wish they'd change about it. maybe it miht be more appealing on a tablet... we'll see. won't be picking it up at its normal price anyway, added to the wishlistEdSevered wrote:I am enjoying the iPad edition of Sugar Bytes Cyclop. I've added all the sugar bytes stuff to my wishlist, never realised they were so invested in ios ... thanks for the tip. but I'll be needing steep cuts in sale prices before i add them to my ipad. which reminds me, arturia have ported the SEM to ios haven't they ?
the TC-data / TC-11 apps look great ... added to the wishlist
also added lemur, touchosc, konkreet performer .... though touchosc is probably cheap enough to buy at the normal price.
thanks again everyone!

There is an iSem (ported from Rolf Wöhrmann, great guy) for iPad yes. There is also an iMini and iProphet app as well from Arturia (i think ported by Retronyms,
..long story) . Oh and iSpark is there too.
ISem is the best for me and it is also one of the few iOS AU.
AUM is really great. It´s mainly a mixer for audio but it is awesome.
I also recommend everything from Beepstreet, the mighty Sunrizer f.e. Still one of my favourite synths. The iPad version offer to my surprise still more features than the plug-in version (like importing scl tune scales and a few other things). The developer also wants to port Dagger synth to iOS soon and make them booth audio units for iOS too.
I love my plug-ins on my mac and Logic and stuff and so but if i could get B2 and Aether for iOS (or any Reverb which could sound that good) and some great sample libraries like Emotional Cello i would sell all this stuff and would turn back to iOS only on an iPad Pro maybe.
IOS is still a child but the creative side of it is mostly much more fun. Also apps are cheaper of course and having multi-touch optimized and high def. UI´s is great too.
I think in a few years i won´t won´t need a desktop or notebook anymore (beside some giant soundtrack creation maybe) to do anything i want. Of course if you feel better with mouse or trackpads, which can be better for some stuff it will never replace it.
When Apple would finally make Logic for iOS i would be done with the bloated OSX.
I miss a lot in iOS and especially about the file management but there are some workarounds and i think it will grow a lot in the next few years.
New generations maybe even will not use a dektop in their life

The Korg apps typically go 50% off every so often (and always when there's a new release) but I've never seen them go lower than that. So if you see any you like at half price, go for them, because it's unlikely they'll get cheaper. A friend sent me last night about a couple of new BT controllers they have. Very cool if you want tactile feedback with something nice and portable. Although they're about €150 each. You can also see Gadget and Module in action in the video.
One thing I really need to do is try harder to use the apps I have on my iPad. Either integrating them with my desktop setup or just trying to make more music on the iPad itself. I've slowed down buying apps as a result, but did pick up Fugue Machine and SoundPrism Link Edition yesterday.
One warning about discchord: try not to watch any of Jakob Haq's videos because he's so into this stuff that he makes me want to buy everything he reviews.

Also recommended you-tube videos from "thesoundtestroom". They are mostly no proffesional reviews but he shows how most people would dig around the first time with an music creation app and i think he nearly reviews all apps in existance

can someone confirm something about Audiobus 2 (standard)...
is it only three slots ? input > effect > output ?
i'd like to do more than that, there's an in-app-purchase for the 'multi-routing' option, but I haven't found much on youtube (or anything at all) showing that off.. other than some article on createdigital music when it first came out, and they showed two effects. i'd be interested to see multiple streams ... i.e two or more inputs going in to their own effects, perhaps sharing an effect, and going to differing outputs as well as a master out ...
I did say I was new to ipad
so I realise what I'm asking may be far beyond what it is supposed to do.
I also have the sneaking suspicion that an app can only be used once in an audio bus setup, is this true ? i.e I can't use multiple copies of Animoog as separate inputs running different patches .... or multiple Filtatrons as separate effects. I guess if this isn't possible, as I suspect, this is where ios AU versions of plugins will come in to their own ...

Audiobus is multi slot/channel with one effect. Buy the multichannel option.
AUM is multichannel with full mixer features like bussing and multi effect. It also hosts AU and IAA effects and synths. AUM is an amazing app!
AUM can host Audiobus chains as an input in one or multiple channels.
I recommend you join the 'iPad Musician' group on Facebook. Very active and knowledgable group.
Have fun!
