HI guys,
I'd like to use my tablet (Galaxy Tab S 10", Android 5.02) as an extra controller, but my daw box (Windows 10) has no wifi. Is it possible to send OSC or MIDI over USB from Android , and do I need "OTG" cable?
Have you done this, and with what software- TouchOSC, Lemur, something else?

Alas you need Android 6.0 or later for this:

(unless some developer went the extra mile and wrote some magical code)

Thank you, excellent (but sad) info!
I guess I need to look at some cheap wifi gadget then, Samsung is very slow to update their OS.

You don't need Android 6.0 for this. 95% of all MIDI enabled Android apps provide their own driver and support MIDI over USB years back since Android 3.1.BertKoor wrote:Alas you need Android 6.0 or later for this:

I don't know if Lemur does, but TouchOSC does for sure.
Just be sure not to update your Tablet to Android 5.1.1. The customized Samsung Android 5.1.1 comes with a known bug in their permission system, which makes it impossible to use and USB MIDI hardware with 99% of all MIDI enabled apps. But since you're using Android 5.0.2, this won't be an issue.
Short answer: Yes, you can (except you're using Android 5.1.1), and Yes, you need an USB OTG cable..jon wrote:Is it possible to send OSC or MIDI over USB from Android , and do I need "OTG" cable?

Finally got my tablet battery exchanged, and Samsung even updated it to Marshmallow. I've installed TouchDAW Free, and tried it in both Live and Reaper with same results- the tablet receives data from the DAWs, I get track names and fader etc movements I do in the DAW updated on the tablet... but I can't get it to send anything.
MIDI mode is also muted in the same fashion, port is active on the PC but no MIDI data gets sent from the tablet.
Any ideas?

Make sure you able to see MIDI input from your tablet in MIDI-OX as described here:
