I simply can't afford Cubase SX but Cubase SL is in my price range but I can only find a demo for SX. Can someone please explain what is the difference between the two?

Thanks so much

it said sl has 16 vst instrument slots, so does that mean I can only use 16 vsts or 16 instances of one vst per song?

it means you can load 16 vst's, whether there are multiple instances of a vst wouldn't matter. (unless there were some restriction, like I think sampletank2 le, you can only run one instance)

k thanks bluedad :)

I use SL. See no reason for going SX at this time.

SL won't support OMF, so if you ever want to load Logic, Sonar, Performer or Pro Tools pjts into Cubase you will need SX.

and why anybody would want to do this is of course up for debate.

I do it with Sonar pjts but i am pecular so i figure i'm covered.

I like Cubase for mixing and Sonar for recording. Go figure.

You could get around this by using Chainer, Tobybear's Mini Host or other vst hosts. One instance of Chainer in one instrument slot could hold 100 or more instruments each.
(Multiply by 16 slots! :-) )

Would 1600 vsti's be enough? :-)

I have FL Studio, I know they have a vst version, would it be possible to use that and get more instances as well?

Not sure what you mean. Do you want to use Chainer in FL Studio? If FL loads vst, Chainer is a vst.

I've heard that the vst version of FL will load in Cubase. Does FL itself load vsti's? Why not ask FL's tech support?

Chainer is only $60 and TobyBear's Mini Host is donationware. Can't get much cheaper than that!

So ask the FL tech support if it will load in Cubase SL and play multiple vstis. In any event you can always use the free Mini Host.
