Back on this for an hour or so while I drink my morning joe. What a great way to start your day. I'm getting butterflies in the stomach now playing this thing. It's like if an arp and a blofeld had a mutant baby that had wires for guts. It's sing-songy and digital without losing is organic character. so many overtones to play with. I would like to see the frequency values correspond to semi tone values. I can use my ears but it would make for faster programming. Am I missing something there? Is there already a known value for 1 octave that I'm unfamiliar with?

The classic way is 1 octave up = ratio 2 while 2 octaves up = ratio 3 etc. 1 octave down = ratio 0.5 and 2 octaves down = 0.25 etc. As the box says Freq. Ratio I'd expect it to behave in this classic manner that all FM/PM (phase modulation) synths I've seen so far has done. Can someone else help confirm or deny this?Dasheesh wrote:Is there already a known value for 1 octave that I'm unfamiliar with?

It seems that way to me, but there is some getting use to, a learning curve if you will. For example one of my semi tone boxes suddenly had an "S" behind the value. I don't understand how I did that yet but the manual mentions something about "in musical tones OR seconds". I think I switched it to seconds somehow but don't realize how yet. I'm currently trying to figure out the key tracking situation. Wrapping my head around oscillator key tracking in an FM sense. I wanted to pull the whole thing down an octave as well and the only way I found how to do that is by pulling down the midi keyboard an octave.Gone soft wrote:The classic way is 1 octave up = ratio 2 while 2 octaves up = ratio 3 etc. 1 octave down = ratio 0.5 and 2 octaves down = 0.25 etc. As the box says Freq. Again, UI needs to be improved to be more obvious. There's a cheesy 'musical note' icon next to the Freq Ratio box. This switches between viewing frequency as a ratio of the MIDI note (classic FM style) and as a semitone transposition (more similar to some analog synths, I guess). It's just 2 different ways of thinking about the same value, as they are both relative to the MIDI note's base frequency (which itself will be affected by the tuning/temperament scheme, when that's done).Dasheesh wrote:It seems that way to me, but there is some getting use to, a learning curve if you will. The same cheesy 'note' icon next to the Freq Add box will switch between regular Hz and divisions of the host tempo.
There's more work to be done making the UI obvious, but remember I've tried to add tooltips in lots of places, so if in doubt, hover.

Ah you did great widdershins, this is just me not reading the manual.
I'm too old to read manuals anymore. I might drop dead before I'm done reading. hahaha. Basically I don't have a lot of time to play with it today and I'm just diving in instead. I'm sure all of this is mentioned in your meticulous manual that you spent so much time on for guys like me.

This thing sounds precious though! I'll be using it a lot and need to start programming midi controllers and macros. So much to do... it's an adventure! I'm making a lot of musical tones and just flat playing the keyboard today though.

Put the oscillators in stereo and detune.Lejurai wrote:Oscillators could have unison. And of course more oscillator types would be nice ^^ (meaning additive, granular, sampler...)

It's on the tangle download page for those that don't know yet. Was mentioned a couple of times in this thread. You will need it. The instrument is so deceptive in it's simplicity. My mind is swimming with possibilities. I've got other stuff to do at the moment but my mind is entangled with the possibilities.
