I dunno. Opioids are a very very very common problem.

Like I said, I have hydrocodone. For me, it doesn't dull the pain very well. I'll take it when it's really bad. But I can EASILY understand how people would like to have the high. It doesn't suck

But I have enough problems in my life, I don't need opioid addiction :scared:

If it doesn't work very well, it would make sense that people would want to take a higher dosage than recommended, having the dual effect of not only dulling the pain more, but also making them feel better from the high.

Some people are more prone to addiction. Let's be honest, rock stars are especially vulnerable to addiction (for whatever reasons), maybe because they chase that high when performing, or reaching that sensation from incredible playing or whatever. But Prince does not appear to be the typical story of snorting blow off of hooker's thighs. I had heard his hip surgery was pretty serious, I'm sure he was in a lot of pain. After seeing the way Prince could dance and do lightning splits, I needed hip surgery just watching it OUCH!! Seems like the pain killers just crept up on him, until he ended up seriously addicted.

It's just too bad that he wasn't around long enough to release his music and video (MASSIVE amounts of documentary style filming was supposedly done) in the way he would have wanted to. I'm betting he had plans to make an incredible final art project to leave us, for when he was getting old and knew he wouldn't be around much longer. But he went out like a rock star, which probably would have been his second choice.

Do people really want/need to know or are they just looking for ammunition to throw shade. As a fan from day one I spent many years defending him. So many people who now call him a genius and a virtuoso were calling him a freak a weirdo not that long ago. Do they really appreciate his contribution? Did they love his music? Did they wait for each and every release regardless if it was a commercial bombshell not just released to critical acclaim? I own EVERYTHING that was ever available bootleg or not. I actually love the music that is less well known. Purple Rain is more of a footnote, an after thought. Reminds me of DEVO I hate "Whip it" that was their creative low if anything. If that is what defines them for you, you don't have a f*ckin' clue. Leave Prince alone and go back to your "legends". They showed they couldn't hold a candle to him when he performed "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with the so-called "Guitar Heros"!! Speaking of covering other peoples music that was one of my favorite parts of his live performances. I so appreciated hearing the songs that he loved. He would check his ego at the door and forgo playing one of his own hits to cover songs that he enjoyed and tipped his hat to the composers of those tunes.

Leave prince alone? "Legends" ?
...Gently Weeps solo even impressed me...a longtime Beatles fan who doesn't really go for Prince.

I dunno. I was the first to post the opioid thing in this thread, and without looking back, i think i was met with 'lets not jump the gun' or something similar, with rolling eyes.

As a musician i like Prince. I dont think less of him because he had an addiction problem. Look at the statistics of addiction, it isnt just for third world countries, it isnt just for poor people, it isnt just a problem for the uneducated.

I kind of feel that its disrespectful to him, and all addicts, to sweep the big pharma under the rug and pretend everythings rainbows and sunshine. That shit he apparently overdosed on is a lot heavier than heroin, but its not viewed as a problem so long as the drug dealer pushing it is wearing a white lab coat.

Demonizing chemical addiction isnt going to help fix the problem humanity faces either, it will just push it deeper into the shadows where it will fester.

Doctors don't "push" opioids. Overprescribing narcotics is a quick way to get your license revoked (bad for doctors). They push ED meds but certainly not painkillers. What usually happens is patients doctor shop and hide "seeker" behavior medical histories. It's a loophole that needs to be closed but it's difficult to enforce.

Thank you for that masterhiggins. And to add;
People die from recklessness, ignorance and stupidity concerning these drugs.
If prince was already 'falling out' from them, like the plane incident, it' s not hard to imagine that he had a drug induced cavalier attitude about them by then. Ever deal with a junky? Imagine your Prince and a junky. Your not going to be easily convinced you need some serious intervention. You do what you have to do to go on the way you are.

It's just a "coincidence" that he "overdosed" on the same drug as Michael Jackson.

Where did you get that info? Two different drugs, not related at all. Jackson took it for sleep. Needed it more after that for reasons beyond my knowledge.
I've had the Jackson drug as an anesthetic....wonderful drug. Knocked me out in seconds and I woke up without any feeling I had been on a drug.

Today I bought the Black Album second hand on CD.

I didn't realize how sought after it is, the lowest price for any of the issues is €15 at Discogs, and there seems to be over 50 bootlegs of it.
