A/D Converters

Hello all....Im looking into getting a new box of some kind, but to be honest I dont know much, or what exactly Im looking for specifically, I just know my audiophile 24/96 isn't cuttin it for recordings...I want something that doesn't color the sound too much or even at all, and want to spend probably no more than $1500.....I just need to run a stereo channel in basically, and wont be routing sound anywhere out once its in.....Heard Apogee is one of the best, and looking at their products, but perhaps I could find a better deal with another brand thats just as good, I dont know, but I could use suggestions if anyone's got em'

That being said, I have a question if anyone can chime in and help me understand this better: What is a typical routing set-up to go through the converter (MixerMains XLR out-->Converter XLR in-->P.C?), and do most products come with a new sound card or hardware to install inside the P.C, or should I just run through SPDIF, and it wont matter?

I dont get SPDIF btw, never used it or understand it fully...I guess its just the digital data so it needs no conversion to and from analog?

Take a strong look at mytek, and benchmark. IMO much better quality for the money than apogee. Too busy to elaborate more though.

Prism make some very fine conversion. I still love the sound of the IZ Technologies Radar converters, but you have to spring for their recorder in order to get them. The IZ S-Nyquist converters sound

I hear the Lavry Blue converters are pretty much the best you can get for the cash. Also, might be worth checking out Benchmark's new ADC-1, whenever it is released.

I just bought the E-mu 1212m.
For 200 bucks, it was a huge upgrade from my Audiophile 2496 - which I had decent luck with.

Thanks for the responses ya'll....I'll definetly look into those suggestions, though also kinda just tinkering with the idea of acquiring a new high end end soundcard....just researching this a little while saving up to see what best fits my needs, and will give me the best sound Im looking for-

If you're just looking for a simple card, but with very good converters though, the 1212M might be the card for you. According to Digit-Life.com, its converters are very very good. I quote:
