9.5 was a pretty relevant update. i wonder why they didn't postpone those features for 10...
maybe they're gonna "push" it to early 2017. Loop might not be such a good place to launch
the new version because it would surely steal the event's usual agenda's limelight.

That said, I think it would be smart to go with a platform model: Sell Live cheap and crack it way open for m4L devs so customers will buy from your m4L 'app store'. In-house innovation at Ableton - outside of the push ecosystem - has been... modest, to say the least.

But ultimately, they need some sales proposition for Live 10 and I don't see it right now. So I don't think 10 will be out until they have one. But maybe I'm missing something.

mp3 export made it in the top 10 feature requests ?

anyway a big one for me would be native LFOs, the m4l offerings are horrible cpu pigs.
would be nice to see some other native mod sources like envelope generators too.

Well, that's a matter of opinion I guess- I haven't sold my Live 9.5 suit licence yet, but BWS does it all for me (and more than Live in terms of modulation possibilities and working like a modular synth). I simply cant use Live now as using layered editing has become part of my workflow and the linier side of BWS (editing audio in the track or clip) is again almost mandatory to me for a fast workflow....

Most of the top user requests for Live are already in BWS, so even if they implement them it will only be catch up, and I suspect BNWS are close to V2 with a fully modular (max like) language fully integrated and networking....

Either way, if Live 10 is better than BWS I will use it (I have no DAW loyalty, I actually use S1 for half of my stuff), but for me, right now, BWS has it for EM and loop based music production (and S1 for when I record live audio). Its possible Live may differentiate its self more as a Live/DJ tool whilst BWS becomes more DAW like (but just has a clip launcher like Live), in which case I am definitely better of with BWS...

It really is a matter of perspective. Bitwig is missing some features I rely on that make me scratch my head. I do like it a lot and will continue to keep my eye on it. Really excited to see what is included in Live 10 but at the same time I'm not very optimistic that I will see anything in the upgrade that I have been wanting since version 5.

I can't see there being a Live 10 for years. They only just paid Cytomic to add the drop filters to 9.5 and they added a new version of Push.

Automation snap to grid and mp3 export, and perhaps bounce in place is my top features and I can't stand especially that automation thing. If they finally add these to Live 10, I will buy the suite version become Live user fully.

i'm not sure what your logic is here .... how is licensing some filters and releasing a hardware controller supposed to lock them in to 9.5 ? are you thinking they will be incompatible with live 10 or something ?

Maybe that they just released a big .5 update, so Live 10 development must be only beginning. I prefer that they deliver something sugnificant instead of BS as Reason recent versions.

it seemed very much like a Push2-centric update to me. the Push2 hardware was ready and rolling off the factory lines - so they released a *.5 update to deliver the relevant feature updates to Live. In an ideal world hardware development and software development would progress hand in hand and reach completion simultaneously, the reality is probably rarely so. Then what should they do if Push2 was ready but Live 10 needed more time in the proverbial oven ? .... release a Push2-centric 9.5 update and start selling Push2 units.

I certainly don't draw any conclusions from that update that suggests they are locked in to it for the foreseeable, or only just beginning development of 10.

It might have been Push2 centric but the features are usefull for every user (new simpler and filters).

Ableton 10 and MAXmsp 8 by the end of the year.
