Impartial opinions Cubase 8.5

So I am currently using Cubase 6.5 have been for a while, and well I would like to upgrade to the latest Cubase, but without going over to the Steiny forums for a bunch of biased opinions, i'd like ppls opinions without the bias.
How does Cubase 8.5 perform ? Is it CPU and RAM heavy ? 6.5 for me is quite light, so I dont want to overload more.
How Stable is 8.5 ? 6.5 has recently become unstable so I am thinking I need to move on for that reason alone.
Is 9 on the horizon ? I dont know the timing on their updates these days so maybe thats due.
What are the additions ? Are they worth the update too ? I know they revamped the mixer , is that good ?
Thanks for the opinions.

8.5 from 5 was amazing for me. So many lil improvements, like the midi editing etc, how one can edit the controllers. I think you may already have these in 6.5. One thing that is new for sure, drag the length of the note with the click that you inserted the note (should of been like this for years).
My 8.5 only crashes on loading some older projects when I'm quickly firing through, will be VST related, once I've saved it from the 8.5 no problem. It's never crashed during a project. The Asio Guard is heavily improved so it should run more if you utilise it correctly. I hated the idea of the new mixer when I was watching the videos before I bought it but now i love it. The resizing, customisation, I don't use the channel strip plugins though, still do it the normal way.
Visualiser on the EQ, all the loudness meters, control room is a breeze to set up now, for individual monitor, headphone controls.

I'm on an 8 year old Core2Duo with 4GB RAM and have just upgraded from 4.5. The CPU increase, if any, is non-existent. If anything it's more efficient.
It is also incredibly reliable, although Kontakt seems to randomly argue with it.
However, it simply refuses to close. I click on close and yet the little icon stays there until I kill it in Task Manager. Tiny price to pay IMO.

Upgrading is a no-brainer... However, if you buy now, don't register it until v9 comes out - there's usually a grace period allowing a free upgrade to the next version, ie get 8.5 now, get v9 free.

Every time I open it I'm asked if I'd like to register now or later.
Are you suggesting I hold off until 9?
Why doesn't everybody do this though? Seems too good to be true TBH.

The op has been with 6.5 for a while (years?), a few months more surely won't hurt to save the cost of the upgrade? Each to his own!TheoM wrote:but the way the licenses work now means he couldn't use it in the meantime if doing that ,so why not just get V9 then lol? It makes no sense.
Me, I upgrade within a week of each release, bugs an' all!
By register, I think I should have said licence... Sorry.Mushy Mushy wrote:Interesting.Ayorinde wrote:Upgrading is a no-brainer... However, if you buy now, don't register it until v9 comes out - there's usually a grace period allowing a free upgrade to the next version, ie get 8.5 now, get v9 free.

I really don't know what an impartial opinion is. Your opinion makes you partial to one side or the other.
But I love 8.5 I have been using Cubase since around v5 and upgraded each time without regret.

Impartial meaning not one of the fanatics over at the steiny forums who always say that the latest version is the shizzle and I would be a fool not to upgrade.
I stopped asking there ages ago lol
So it seems the general concensus is that 8.5 is worth the money and quite stable with hte odd issue here and there.
Kontakt is something I use a lot, dont need issues with that.
I might hold off for V9 then, and just get that. If its due this year.
Thanks all

I didnt even know they did demo's tbh.
I have it now, and trialing it.
It did say I had 30 days to use it, then it runs out, but everytime I load it, says 17 hours etc.
How do I change that ?
Thanks for advising me on the demo.
