Ableton: Automating a return track, can this be done?

Anyone know if this is possible or work arounds?

This is the scenario (for Dubstep)...
All the volume shaped tracks are sent to the same return which has an instance of Volume Shaper on. The reason I want to automate within a return is so I can add say LFO tool or something on the return chain as well to activate/deactivate it at parts of the bar in order to rhythmic variation.
