Macbook Pro, Focusrite 2i4, and Cubase?

I got a Macbook Pro from work. It's a few years old. 2013 ish. 2ghz Intel Core7 with OS X El Capitan 10.11.3

I am not restricted on what I can use it for so I was thinking about connecting a Focusrite 2i4 to it and messing around with some tunes.

I only know Cubase so I'm inclined to stick with what I know. Years ago I remember Cubase not necessarily being recommended for Mac. Is this still the case? I was thinking of getting Cubase Elements since I don't need a ton of simultaneous tracks.

Looking for advice, insight, recommendations. I don't have a lot of money to spend at the moment so using what I already have and know is desirable but if what I'm proposing doesn't sound feasible, please advise.

I'm guessing that tooneba suggested to check out Garageband since it's already included in OSX.
