Best extensions/addons for Ableton Live?

I saw a post today at Create Digital Music about Preditor, an extended custom controller mapper for Live, and its the second 'interesting' add-in Ive seen for Live recently.

The other one, it turns out, is from the same company. This time though, its a multi-clip editor, which is common enough in other DAWs, but something Live didnt appear to have.

The other 'major' thing Im aware of is Livescore, the notation editor for Live. That one's a bit more esoteric as it needs M4L on top of a (commercial) custom Java library.

So what else is out there that basically extends the core functionality of Live in some sort of way? Anything else really interesting?

Obviously Im aware that there are a ton of M4L-built stuff, including a lot of 'sequencer-y' type functions but that's not quite what Im asking about. Plus Im aware that there's a fair bit in the way of custom Python controller scripts and other stuff (including Touchable and the like) but again, that's not quite the same territory.

Never seen a compiled list that covers this sort of thing, Im kind of curious as to what else might be out there.

The Liquid Notes reharmonization software could be a nice addon. They have a Max4Live version for Ableton Live users.

Both of the above are things that I wish had been possible natively, but all the same... I'm happy to support these 3rd party tools just the same.

Liquid Music (also liquid rhythm to a lesser extent)

Its a bit fiddly to setup but once you do its fully integrated with live through an m4l plugin. I also recently did a full reinstall and seems they may have finally gotten some of their install issues fixed, just make sure to have one version of the java JRE installed first. Switches to rhythm mode when it detects a drum rack, back to music mode on regular clips

(it also goes on a sale a few times a year so you can probably catch it on discount from pluginboutique and sometimes direct from them)

If you're in a band, there's Beatseeker. It adjusts Live's tempo to match, say, your drummer.

So instead of the drummer having to use a click track to stay in time with the computer, now it will stay in time with them just like any other band member.

I'm new to Live; is the existence of the Multi-clip addon (assuming it works well and seamlessly) more likely to mean that Ableton will never ever implement it [and I need to grab m4l], or that we can expect a near-copypaste of it at the next version?

More likely the latter than the former (especially if it sells well) - people have been calling for Ableton to include multi-clip editing for ages now, so if they can see this works for people then no doubt they'll have a little chat with the Isotonik/Chaos-culture boys !

Definitely worth investing in a version of Ableton with M4L someday though - So many cool instrument and audio effects, I definitely wouldn't use Ableton without it !

not sure if by "core functionality", you mean to exclude the EFX. If you would include them, I'd recco enhancing the reverbs with a tasty Valhalla product. LIVE's native verbs are kinda weak imho

Although I doubt whyterabbyt wanted to get deep into an add-on effects thread for Live, but...

He does seem to have an interest various sound design tools, so I hope he checks out Outer Spaced.

I was surprised at the results that can be gained using it. Seriously a gem a of an effect IMO that reduces serious time for similar results, but even better... provides unique results quickly.

Pretty much, yes. For the purposes of this, im more interested in stuff that adds to what live can do, since its one of the few extensible hosts around. New capabilities for the host itself.

A different reverb or whatever, isnt what I'd call core functionality; they're all instances of the same core functionality of 'apply an effect to audio' (or for synths 'generate some audio,' or for step sequencers 'play some MIDI notes' etc etc).

Ooh I got one - Tip ( http://k-devices.com/products/tip/ ). It's main purpose is to dump all the parameters of a device into a slot allowing you to switch between presets with just one mappable dial, it's secondary purpose (and the one that actually is the main reason I use it) is it can also mass-randomise said parameters.

This is for any machine - not just the native ones built in, but any VST etc.... Load a complex synth absolutely full of dials and things, map Tip to it, hit Random, and BLAM ! An instant complex patch created in just one click
