1. As somebody already mentioned, report back to the developer.
2. As someone else mentioned, this might be a bug fixed in more recent versions.
3. In Studio One there is an autosave function. Check to see if this is available in your version of FL Studio as well.
Or..
4. Save often, manually. I do that frequently myself.

The amazing thing about music/piano rolls/FL Studio. Notes are fractions. If you want to increase the tempo, shrink your resolution from 16th notes to something smaller. FL works down to a couple of samples of resolution. You have infinite tempo freedom. If you need 999bpm you are not deep enough into time signatures and music theory.

Increase the Timebase (PPQ) in Project general settings to get better note precision when resizing note selections in the piano roll so that notes don't stack on each other if they are too close to each other.Stupid American Pig wrote:The amazing thing about music/piano rolls/FL Studio. Well maybe if FL STUDIO got some more respect when it got home from work, FL STUDIO might be less likely to crash, goddamnit. FL STUDIO just wants to be loved. FL STUDIO just wants your love. So stop yelling at FL STUDIO so much, and your life will be super happy fun time.

I use soundfonts because they are faster to load than sample libraries and then they are more predictable because they don't contain round robins.
I use Fruity Soundfont Player for my .SF2 files.

A .SF2 soundfont file is merely a specific implementation of a sample library. No one here questions why you use soundfonts or the Fruity Soundfont Player.
This thread however would possibly get interesting if you could narrow down the conditions under which you can get FLStudio to hang by deleting a note in the piano roll. Is it indeed tied to using an internal FLS instrument? Is it only the Soundfont Player or does it also happen with other built-in synths? Or maybe it also happens on tracks where no instrument is loaded at all? Does it only happen in the version you use, or can you also get this behaviour in newer or even older versions? I bet ImageLine would be interested in your findings so they can improve their product.
If you can't come up with some (preferrably all) of those specifics, then this seems to be just your venting about some bones you want to pick with FLStudio and your reluctance to upgrade. All fine then, but not my / our problem.
